Looking at the rather subpar photo quality from the periscope telephoto camera, it really does make me wonder why Apple is yet to hop in to the periscope telephoto bandwagon. I found that a shame because the photo quality from the main and ultrawide camera is actually very excellent.

Other cameras with manual mode give much better image quality. Sony cutting costs, thereby delivering subpar image quality

Guess that 105 zoom needs some soft polishing, Or maybe the max zoom AI enhancer in PhotoPro does a better job, but unfortunately we cant know that from this rev, as they didnt care to test or show its results here.
As they didnt care to test 20af/ae burst modes autofocus accuracy, or the sound quality of the jack, or 360 degree audio, or...
Drn, there is so much info and testing missing here.

Only complaint I read there is...no night mode like HDR overexposure of shadows, which is better approach to night photography. By their opinion.
I do disagree, as quite some people do also, on their opinion... those more natural looking night shots with no overexposed shadows and actual dark skies look much better quality to me. But thats just Regular mode, PhotoPros S n M mode can do more for shadows and their tastes.

Could you post some link to other reviews? I am interested in this phone and i would like to see another opinion than that on GSM Arena. At the moment i have a Xperia 1 from 2years ago and it still rocks. Indeed the screen could be brighter and a night mode for photos would be of great help. I just want to point and shoot. Sony should just give people what they want. I mean the more you sell the better the profit! Someone should smack them over the head and wake them up. In this phone business you need to be ahead of the curve or you can end up like the good old Nokia.

The Xperia 1 III can be pre-ordered for 1.100,- Euros bundled with the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones which have an online-market price of 200,- Euros. So they cost about the same, but the Xperia has features like:
the dedicated camera button, notification led, headphone jack, 20 fps with eye af thanks to the stacked sensor with 10ms readout speed (perfect to capture my girl who started walking last week), manual controls, sd card slot, natural colours out of the box, first 4k 120 hz display with and accurate colours (perfect for photo editing on the phone), notch less display, battery management, acceptable reparability (according to ifixit), ...
All features the Ultra does not have and which are important for me.
Photography is a hobby of mine and I mostly use my 24-70 or 24-105 zooms so the zoom range of the xperia is even better on the lower end and should be more than sufficient. The lack of a slow superzoom is easily forgiven.
I’m going to buy the Xperia as the preorder starts.

But my gripes more towards those 4K at 120hz (or is it 1080p upscaled to 4K at 120hz? Still no confirmation) at 500~nits. I would even trade it with just 1080p to at least 800 nits (dont care about 4K res on tiny smartphone display), which easily can score near 100h battery endurance.
With that said, yes 5iii battery endurance will be much much better.

Xperia 5 III will have better battery life, Xperia 1 III has pretty much the battery life I have expected due to 4K screen.
But I wouldn't say it is bad considering that, it's just that 4K screen would be the final nail on the coffin considering the 888 is way too powerhungry for what it delivers.

This Sony has quite a few problems granted but those holding the S21 ultra up as the phone to beat are having a laugh.
These are the reasons I did not choose Samsung S21 Ultra.
Punch hole, the phone is a heavy brick, The aggressive hdr makes everything look ridiculous, no charger in box, no headphone jack, no expandable storage, bloatware. There is more including bad optimisation etc and Samsung's passion to be Apple.
Yes this Sony isn't great but the Samsung fanboys need to look at themselves.

I do find it odd that GSMArena didn't say least redo the battery test in 60Hz to see the difference along with stating the multitude of features the Xperia has (Game Enhancer allowing you to deadlock the refresh rate to certain apps, 360 Reality Audio, I could swear this thing has Dolby Atmos like the previous model, changing the charging settings to push the 30W, etc) like they would for other phones (ESPECIALLY the ROG phones). It's almost fishy if you will (no, I'm not a 'fanboy'. This review just seems to be missing a number of things...)
