[deleted post]Maybe Sony just doesn't make exceptional phones, just average ones... But sells them for the price of the best ones.

Dometalican, 05 Jul 2021It's pretty much why I criticized Sony for not going 5... moreThat will be 9.5mm thick and 210g, doesn't bother me, because I carry 2000mah slim credit card size powebank.
Lot off users and techsites will discredit the phone.
No one uses 120hz , because it drains battery.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2021Typical lower~tier parts by Sony to conserve cost. Last yea... moreI don't think the last year's sensor is a huge problem.
My Galaxy S21+ with similar Sony sensor does much better because of better image processing algorithms and camera software.
Witg gcam, it's even better. I doubt Sony Xperia 1 III users will get to enjoy gcam to counter the poor image quality in Auto mode on default app.

Well, that was pretty bad. I expected Sony to learn from previous mistakes, but no, they don't. Display is even less bright than ancient XA2, for an OLED display it's terrible result and a terrible fail.
Battery life... that was a bit expected, since it uses S888, an exceptionally terrible CPU. Qualcomm, you really failed this time. Considering that even battery experts from Sony could't take much of a life with it, the CPU doesn't deserve to live.
Much expected double focal lenght camera fails to impress, especially at the longer end. Too bad from a company with such large camera producing background.
Not even some brand loyalty would make me buy such poor phone for a higher price than the top level Samsung or Apple.
Sony, just give up already.

I literally came here just to check on the Camera section (because, honestly, Sony had already nailed everything else from a long time ago), and the Alpha Team has managed a lot of progress in just two gens. Like, look at the night photo of those cars. That same photo on the XZ2 looked all fuzzy, and last year model wasnt good either. This year's model looks so clean and crispy.
Cant wait to see where they will go from now on. Perhaps they will implement their own "Night Mode" by letting the phone do longer exposures or something like that.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2021"We certainly can't recommend it to anyone who is... moreThey have nothing more to say other than micro SD slot and headphone jack.
Lol why pay 1300$ for these two features. Budget devices already have both headphone jack and dedicated micro SD slot unlike Sony

786, 05 Jul 2021Common sense 120hz consumes slot off battery.
Low light is... moreEven in pro app, camera quality is underwhelming.
Sony is behind other flagships. Their camera department needs to be fired and they need to spend more on bigger sized sensors.

Last year, your tested Xperia 1 II about the screen
Display test 100% brightness
Black,cd/m2 White,cd/m2 Contrast ratio
Sony Xperia 1 II 0 422 ∞
Sony Xperia 1 II (Max Auto) 0 607 ∞
This year

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2021Good luck selling this at 1300$ Sony... Yes 1300$ and you have to wait till September to get your hands on it.
People have already put their trust in other brands.
Using something from Sony is so decade 2010.... Ewww

"We certainly can't recommend it to anyone who isn't a brand loyalist, and maybe even those folks could be better off exploring alternative paths in the search of the ultimate smartphone."
Don't want to listen from Sony brand boys on this forum again. Other phones are are much better than this underwhelming garbage

Sony yet again focusing on unnecessary 4k resolution, instead they should provide a brighter panel

I respect sony's approach with night modes but,for some extend. night mode is not only for brightening the images. it is a heavy process to extract more detail in shadows, textures and highlights altogether. sony could do this with lower exposure for sure. unfortunately, capturing a manual 1 sec exposure snap with a tripod results with blown highlights in any smartphone including sony. besides, sony will wait for 2 more months to sell this phone for $1300. s21u will have its 3rd or 4th discount by that day. so....god luck! sony is still doing the same mistakes.

Sadly, this is exactly what I expected :(
Dim screen, poor battery, compromise between 120/4K with no manual controls, average speakers, ton of Sony software non-sense and non-working features like proximity sensor, wind suppression in video and overall good-ish photos with good colour reproduction and crushed shadows.
I am glad, I do not use Xperia anymore.
As written before ... this is a Sony phone, so I do expect a lot of flame in discussion :D
Too bad Sony can lately only produce loyal fans and not good phones.
