Anonymous, 04 Aug 2021Why is the image quality better when both models use the sa... moreBecause the hardware is just one area contributing to final image quality. Your Redmi Ultra Max has a 48 MP camera but does that mean it can outperform all other phones with the same sensor ?

Let the feature haters invade this comment section!
They need to teach everyone what they need and how much that cost!

This phone makes Xperia 1 III even more overpriced and pointless. Well, even Xperia 5 III is a bit over, considering what it gives, but much less than the "top" model.

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2021Who cares what Sony wants?I do and so many other people, and some who had Samsung and IPhone before. Because unlike you they want features for the money they pay.

Nick Tegrataker, 04 Aug 2021The samples and GSMArena's studio comparison tool clea... moreSony uses iToF for AF/object tracking computation, not just portrait modes like others, iToF does depth mapping and that data is used in processing the photos, on all the sensors. Thus the difference in results as to 5III that does not have iToF, and has more flat looking processed photos.
Your observations dont have anything to do with lenses, as them are exactly the same.
Logical enough?

I think that the softness of 1III's telephotos is due to autofocus failures.
If you look at the snail photo, the background is more out of focus in 1III than 5III (meaning that 1III focus point is probably in front of the snail).

Sounds like there's no point upgrading from the 5ii. They couldn’t even be bothered to update the design. And once again Sony’s phones struggle with screen brightness. They’ll be joining LG soon.

CompactPhones5ever, 04 Aug 2021One thing that's bugging me:
https://www.gsmarena.c... moreBecause it basically is the same phone.
888 ISP maybe can explain the better photos, slightly
And maybe also more tuning from Sony vs last year.
But that's it. The bigger battery too.
And it's enough really. I can see this being interesting for those who didn't already get X5 ii last year.

What else then other than lens?

Or, if you really want to come at me with that stomach-turning "ToF sensor used for multiple focal points processing to achieve miniscule multiple blur effects" argument again, be my guest lol.

It doesnt have anything to do with lenses. Them are exactly the same. Only difference in the cam setup is the iToF sensor. So deduct logically for once.

One thing that's bugging me:
https://www.gsmarena.com/vidcmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=10851&idPhone2=10396 - check the map or the heart in bottom left
https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=10851&idPhone2=10396 - check the rubber bands in top right
+SD888 really feels more like an overclocked version of SD865 - more performance but in exchange for more heat and more battery consumption.
It's not an issue when the phone is worse in some areas than other brands, but why does the 5 III feels like virtually no upgrade over 5 II?
