Sony smartphones really are a mixed bag when it comes to photography, but I gotta say these newer ones are a lot better than the earlier. Huawei still continues to be my favorite when it comes to smartphone photography.
I also gotta commend these current Xperias because the design is really interesting and they retain so many features lost in other phones.

>>> Typical Sony with specs on paper that hardly translate in the real world.
Just like the 30W charging on Sony is a lot slower than 25W charging on Samsung or the battery care gimmick that heats up the phone more than 65W-120W charging phones or the 4k120hz panel that rarely operates at 4k120hz.
They should have compared it with phones having sensors around the same size... Pixel 6 pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Vivo X70 pro plus and Huawei p50 pro.
Tiny iPhone sensor requires heavy software processing help to give usable images.

The price is the stumbling block.
For that price I could get 3 Google's Pixel 6,
Or 2 Google's Pixel 6pro

sohail shafayat, 26 Oct 2021if you are ok with your 2015 Lumia 950 than you also can be... moreOn the other hand, I agree with you that if you're tight on budget, you can simply get a Xperia 1 mark I or II and still get this unique natural feel of the sony's smartphone for far less than 1k.
That's also why I'm waiting for the mark IV since even tho I'm using the mark I, none of the mark II, III or this pro-I would justify wasting a good phone only after 2 years of use and spending this much.

That's a nice joke. I played around with loads of modern smartphones trying to find the perfect replacement for the Lumia 950 in terms of camera performance, but not one can still surpass its true-to-life realistic colour and detail, even for the latest non-Pro flagship Xperia*. Even its Rich Capture HDR photos can still give a serious fight to today's smartphone with modern and advanced HDR algorithms. Don't even get me started talking about the native HDR intensity slider that I'm still yet to see on modern smartphones. Better images from current $500 phones? Definitely do not see that happening.

sohail shafayat, 26 Oct 2021if you care so much for images why don't you buy a pro... moreDSLR are a pain, period. Heavy, take a lot of place, most of the time the interface is from the dark stone age. I was even annoyed bringing a RX100 with me for a trip in moscow because it's just boring having 300g around the neck all the time or getting a bag to wander around in town when I could just have a phone in the pocket of my short.
Yeah, you can get a Pixel that do "decent" photo. But they are just that, decent, not pleasing, highly computational, and most importantly no fun to work with.
As you said, not everyone like to take photo nor even know how to. That's why this phone (or any other flagship phone) is not for them and a pixel perfectly do the thing. There are people that happily bring their 20kg backpack with DSLR and various objective, fine, it's perfect to do professional photography/video and unmatched here, but I wait them for a 5 day backpack trip in total autonomy in the mountains, with the 14Kg stuff needed for their survival. Also, I hope they did not forget it at home for this small walk because of the weight when the landscape is just stunning at the moment because of some brief weather condition or when they meet this insect or mushroom where the composition is just too good to pass by but won't be there 10 minutes after.
So yeah, you don't understand why some people want the best of photography power in the smallest case possible even if it's not the best of photography overall, but that doesn't mean there isn't a need for that.
Also, that's only $2k, for a lot of people that are wealthy enough for that kind of hobby, that's nothing, just look at the Galaxy fold that can be seen as bringing nothing to the equation except a wealth check social recognition. And you perfectly know when you put a foot in the DSLR field, you're going for far, far more than 2K, because of the various objectives, the quicker memory cards, all the shit that will hook your wallet, and the absolute need for a computer to do even basic photo processing. Also, you still need a smartphone for your basic everything.

But with smartphone photography shows faster evolution than DSLR photography, I now spend little time with my DSLR camera. The only time I ever use a DSLR camera is when I have to do a shooting job involving long zooms. Most of the time, I'm with my current Microsoft Lumia 950.

Sony Xperia Pro 1 is gonna cost $2000 with a 3 or 4 years of Product life but you can get a Professional DSLR for this price with a minimum 3 to 4 times product life time! Same thing for any $1000+ phones. Don't be crazy. Don't waste a $1000 or more for a so called flagship camera phone that lasts only 3 years.
I never understood this stupid trend of premium phones that focus so much on the camera to the point that it drives the price so high and it's all because of the camera. You see phones like the new pixel they are able to deliver a good phone sub 1k with a decent camera but others you have to pay much more just for a slightly better picture quality. Like 95% of the users won't get the best of the tech because they either don't care that much about taking pictures or recording videos other than the casual stuff or they just use them for social media that compresses everything and all the high quality goes out the board. Also how they like to promote those phones basically as a replacement of a real camera lol! that's the biggest joke of all.

Ivo., 26 Oct 2021Why use 1" sensor, but just use a part of it? It makes... moreThe main reason I think sony has only used a part of the sensor is due to lens design limitations in a body so thin, remember this sensor is made for a compact camera and not a smartphone, and here they probably should have brought the s21 ultra to comparison as well seeing the similarity in sensor size, so I agree with you.
