Back to iOS after years of Android use

I am an iPhone guy. I currently have a 13 Pro Max. Best phone I’ve used. Battery amazing. Cameras is great. But it’s glass slab, buttery battery and screen year on year and I’m sick of it. I’ve ordered a flip3 because for once I’m excited about some new tech. I’m not selling my iPhone as my work uses a lot of apps so I need battery that I don’t have to worry about, but in terms of just actual excitement - it’s the flip for me.
The Fold 3 is too big for me but I saw one and it’s an impressive bit of kit.

A revealing outcome from the authors observation is that, most of the things he dislikes in iOS are related to software and most of the things he likes are related to hardware. Do we buy a phone for its hardware or software? If anything the recent technological advancements has taught us, it's about the supremacy of the software over the hardware and I for one would happily settle with that.
P.s.
On a side note I do appreciate and admire the frugal nature of iOS, the long battery life and the excellent camera, especially the video, which ofcourse is a happy marriage between the software and hardware.
P.s.2:
In general the observations sounded quite amateurish and not like something coming from a GSM editorial team, i.e., not professional in outlook.

"and you can only take so many pictures of your cats"
Possibly the most controversial comment in the whole article!
I am in a similar boat, having recently decided to try out IPhones for the first time. Although as someone who likes a large screen I would add that IOS is even worse on large screens - the fixed number of apps per screen and the lack of full screen (or 1-2 app size) widgets go a long way to wasting that larger screen real estate.

I have switched from iphone to android it works fine for me. I save a lot of money in my pocket. Less headache, Faster browsing and so on. Only one thing i sacrifice is that the screen is relatively larger for android phones. If a compact android phone comes up, i will switch with it. And it relatively costs less to switch to android. Thanks

Anonymous, 01 Jan 2022and there’s nothing elitist about androids either, the end.... morePretty sure the comments started based on the authors conclusion that despite the 'bugs / quirks' the ego boost of using the iPhone is what won him over.
Those first few comments pointed out that iPhone's started out as being status symbols and continue to this day with no functional advantage. Be it smooth scrolling or not.

red77, 04 Jan 2022that only happens if you are an idiot and side load anythin... moreyou are too optimistic about ability to verify software content , what is bundled inside as a bonus :)
proper sideloading would require verification hash from original developer but how often you do get it from trustable source?

7UIS, 03 Jan 2022Most people simply buy an iPhone just to show what they are... moreno everyone likes to play with barebone android, that "I will make it right" game I mean.

I got a iPhone 12 mini when there was nothing in the market smaller than 6.0"
10years Android users. I hate the iOS for all the Cons you listed in page two, plus FaceID which you had in your PROs. Where I am we still have to wear face mask all the time and it just doesn't work with Face mask on.. I miss the fingerprint unlock greatly.. and I totally agree in trying to make their phone (or rather OS) simple and clean and slick, they really compromised on some very simple quality of life functionality that Andriods users have come to expect (and enjoyed) unknowingly.. so much so that once you hop over, its just pain. While a Apple purist had just learned to live with their phones to the fullest. BTW i also had friends who switched to Android after years of Apple and had yet to changed back to Apple too!
For me? will stick to it for awhile until a Phone maker on the Android Camp Releases a small-ish phone.

that only happens if you are an idiot and side load anything without using common sense and apos xant just steal your bank details etc, those are pretty secure thats where the security part cones into play, that is pretty much a possibility if you ge phished or you give some shady app super user access

Siemens gave up long before, Nokia is dead. the only option would be Korean and Japanese. Sony charges exorbitant price for their phone, for example xperia 1 III costs around 1300 bucks. If I pay 1300, it would be for a iphone because of the support and quality (my personal choice). if somebody wanna buy a non-chinese phones, options are pretty limited.

Been mostly an iPhone user. Have briefly used Android and Windows Phone in the past. One obvious thing that annoys me with iOS is the restrictiveness. We basically use a new iPhone 13 the same way we used the first iPhone. No multi tasking. We can have floating windows for video and photo, that's it. If I wanna switch to another app I need to go to home screen or to the apps in background. With Android we get a neat sidebar that we can access from anyplace. Have window in window for many apps. We don't even yet have numbers with the letters on the top keyboard row. Only on iPad. I wish some of those would make it to iOS.

I only know that another manufacturer is needed to come with something fresh this year, I don't want Chinese phones, and in America there is only Google and Apple, Sony, Japanese, it is almost out of the game, Samsung Koreana, more of myself and more expensive , LG another Korean, out of the game, and the others, out of the game, only the Chinese manufacturers and more, why does not a European manufacturer emerge? because Nokia is more than dead !!! Let's go United Kingdom, let's go European Union ...... Do something !!!

I'm surprised George considers the iPhone 13 Pro compact. Compact is more like the 13 mini, Flip 3, and Find N. The 13 Pro weighs 204 g. My Razr 5G is fairly heavy enough after using it awhile. It's over 190 g. The 13 mini weighs only 140 g or 5 more than the 12 mini due to slightly bigger battery.
