Looking forward

That is a show king battery result which ruins a good phone unfortunately.

Looking back at this phone's camera performance, I only noticed just now on how utterly brilliant the zoom photos are. I expect to see the usual oversharpened effect, but I'm not seeing one at all. Heck, I even dare to say that it's Nokia 808 PureView and Nokia Lumia 1020-like quality, it is THAT impressive! If there's one thing this phone's telephoto camera shows, it shows that Quad Bayer never always been the right sensor for lossless zoom, even with demosaic. Native RGB sensor is still the right and best choice, especially if it can do oversampling like those two aformentioned Nokia phones.

OK, half of the photos in the review are extremely soft and out of focus. Is there a prominent problem with autofocus on both wide and ultrawide camera on p50 pro? Or is it a software issue?

"Finally, the last rear camera is the 64MP zoom snapper. The sensor has a proper Bayer filter instead of the widespread Quad-Bayer ones"
It's surely not Bayer, but Quad Bayer. Otherwise you wouldn't get 16 megapixel photos, even though there are some Bayer sensors, which support analog pixel binning. Also, the 10x results would look better, if they used Bayer and not Quad Bayer. Only the Galaxy S21/S20 uses a 64 megapixel Bayer sensor.

"It has a 90mm (95mm per EXIF) f/3.5 OIS periscopic lens"
No, it's not a 90mm lens. 90mm is a specification for the field of view, which depends on the sensor size. It's a 16.85mm lens.

Google isn’t the issue, it’s the 5G ready connectivity and more apps to run on their own OS. Don’t talk about privacy and all cause most of us know that Apple and Google isn’t doing the same. They just have different ways to do it

Im still using my Mate10 Pro, because is a great phone and secondly, Monochome camera - I love black and white photos. Sinse then I've been waiting for a new phone with Monochome camera, but nothing came out. Now P50 Pro had that camera, but with no Google services....sorry Huawei!

"The 40MP monochrome camera saves 12.5MP photos"
My assumption is that they use a Quad Bayer sensor without the colour filter array, but with pixel binning, then it might be rather a 10 megapixel sensor and would explain this behaviour.

Is there really no face ID?

Kuba, 07 Feb 2022So basically a phone worse than P40 Pro... wowI agree. The P40 Pro was a better overall package.

Huawei made NO compromises when it comes to cameras, except not using a new sensor. Sad to see it be like this for the first time in 4 generations, but at least the camera is good.

It really pains me to see the rest of the phone so poor. This is not reaching the standards Huawei was famous for reaching in either performance or battery life:(

Anonymous, 08 Feb 2022Is there any reason why they don't use Kirik anymore? ... moreTSMC, which manufactures the Kirin SoC for Huawei, was banned from the US to provide them with technology (partially US technology involved). Till Huawei finds a way to manufacture high-end chips, they would need to outsource their chips. Qualcomm is allowed to sell only 4G chips to Huawei (another US restiction).
