Z Flip3 is also heavily discounted in many places, that the idea of getting a then-flagship smartphone with a quirky foldable display just seems irresistible especially at a good price. Plus, people would appreciate the compact size for their pockets in folded mode.
I also think that the negatives of this phone could be turned into a positive thing for yourself: the poor battery life and fragile plastic screen means you'd want to conserve and use your phone less and carefully, a change in behaviour that is much needed in this world.

Scram, 11 May 2022I bought the Fold and sold because of the slim front screen... moreI did not miss the part where you said you were not a Cupertino shill and I believe you. But this does not change the fact that when Apple got it right, the others would get it right too in the same generation.
I still have my Fold 3 and plan to keep it until Fold 5 comes out. Yes, the battery is an issue, but it has so many other advantages that I can live with the battery. SO Sammy got it just right enough for me.
Saying Apple is better in battery department is not correct in general: Apply devices might consume less, but Galaxys are faster at charging which is more relevant to me. An the battery life of an S22 would still be good enough to make any decision against it justified. But the S Pen is something that make the case against iPhones.
The same is with camera BTW: the camera is for me and probably for 99% of people out there at least as good as the iPhone camera. Some people prefer the allegedly better video quality, I prefer the versatility and the pro mode. The quality difference of iPhone is again not big enough to make a case against my Fold 3. But the versatility of Fold 3’s cameras is for me enough to make a case against iPhone cameras.
You can’t pick just a few aspects and say therefore, Apple would get it better.

The only advantage I see of the folding part is that my screen is protected most of the time from a drop. And probably easier to carry in my pocket. But will wait for the tech to improve. Maybe 2027

I went out of my way to point out that I did not want to come across as a Cupertino shill. Guess you missed that.
To your point, Apple phones will for the foreseeable future have better battery life because of the extreme level of integration. Samsung neither controls the chip nor OS design of its foldables. Apple does and that's a huge deal as any owner of an iPhone 13 PM can attest, despite it having one of the smallest batteries in a large-sized flagship.
Apple's camera has been the best in video for more than half a decade now. Lastly, since bendgate, Apple has killed it with hardware quality.
Merge all of those together and it is crystal clear how much of a splash an iFlip will make. My bet is Apple is waiting for component prices to fall low enough for healthy margins before rug-pulling the competition.

And I... moreBut the Flip of the same year will have the same " decent battery life, leading-class camera, and ... have excellent build quality (no crease)", too! So what is the point?
Just be happy that there are companies offering you such phones already today. Nobody is forcing you to buy one if ou don't want.

I don't think people give Cook enough credit. Admittedly, he'll never be a product visionary like Jobs; but a good proportion of post-Jobs products like the Apple Watch and Mac Studio are terrific.
Apple would not have to do anything special with an iFold/iFlip. It just has to use its unique advantages to solve striking pain points. Advantages like its very efficient A/M chips and controlled OS for longer battery life.

At that point, rollables, dual axis foldables, and other forms will then gain traction--ushering a delightful repeat of peak smartphone design diversity of the 2000s.

Odd review from the normally Reliable gsm team…u totally miss the point of something like this..I’ve come from a 12pro..in most ways that phone was better in terms of camera quality , battery life etc…BUT it’s gone and I much prefer this device…camera is pretty good actually, battery life not so great, but it’s first phone in years that is genuinely interesting and so much fun to use..it’s way ahead of apple in this respect..got the bespoke edition and yes it’s SO slippery but put a leather d brand on other back and it just feels a superb piece of engineering…overall still prefer IOS but switch to android was easy enough..

I took the phone out of the pocket, there were black spots on it, I switched off the phone and turned it on again, then the screen went blank, on showing the phone on Samsung Care, they told that your screen will be replaced, I said that it is a manufacturing fault, this is the company should correct something they did not give me any response even after calling customer care no response given.
I want that on giving Samsung flip or fold, if someone's screen is worse than you, then it is the responsibility of the company to change it and the company has not given any response to this, the company is telling me that it is so bad after taking such an expensive phone. Service From this it is understood that Samsung phone should not be bought.

I've moved from iPhone 13 pro max.. lifelong apple user.. this is the best, most fun phone I've owned since the Nokia 8800 days.
Has all the features. Camera is great. Honestly maybe quicker charging would be good but battery is fine. Everything else, is next level.

Got both this and a s21 (exynos).. battery wise they last the same with me and at the flip I got the wearables connection all the time on. Been outdoor on a parade taking pictures while holding my wife and kids stuff, really easy to handle and of course it's a head turner. Love the experience, for me the first daily usable foldable.

And I... moreSteve Jobs Apple, yes.
Current Apple is just a me too company. They just implement things later than everyone else and it seems that they are waiting for tech to mature, but in 2022 we just have iPhones with OLED panels that still have eyestrain inducing pwm flicker and huge notches. It took six years for them to admit that the butterfly keyboard was a disaster.
Apple's foldable will have a noticable crease and they will sell you three years of AppleCare+ to fix it.
