Great hardware, terrible software and postprocessing, no night mode. A huge disappointment considering its price.
If Google and Sony collaborated to make a Sony Pixel phone, we would have a near perfect Android phone. Instead, both companies make their own phones, and persist in their own flaws.

Sony's hardware prowess and software philosophy are really good. I absolutely love the enthusiast approach that Sony is using.
But, Sony is charging Huawei Pro+ money for this phone. And frankly, IMO, the Xperia 1 IV offers photo quality that can be beaten by a phone that costs far less. I don't like how GSMArena were worried about photo quality in the zoom lens. I don't worry whatsoever about my P30 Pro's 5x imager. I don't understand why the zoom is so poor on the Xperia. And while the daylight photos are good, I would have preferred a higher resolution sensor, so I can shoot 48-108MP photos when the lighting is good; Sony has proven that their software can handle high-res photos in those daylight photos.
As things stand now, this thing reminds me of the Axon 20 5G's under-display camera. A promising formula that has A LOT of potentials. But I don't like it. The execution just isn't mature enough to justify such a steep price. Considering the standards that Huawei and Samsung had set in the past with Ultra 1,200-1,400 euro devices, this Xperia isn't there. Frankly, I'd pay 900 to 1,100 dollars for this phone. And you can get a Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ or S22 Ultra for less and get a better experience with the camera. (Google notwithstanding on the Huawei)

I'm gonna be completely honest, I'm disappointed in Sony with this phone.
No charger, and they want 1400+ for it?
Yeah sorry Sony, I'm not gonna support you anymore
S22 Ultra here I come.

No discussion of mic quality...? It's still a phone.

I did expect a bit of a bigger camera update, but the fact the telephoto able to zoom continuously is incredible. While it does exhibit a bit of softness, this technology poses a lot of potential in the future

100 hours of battery endurance rating is a welcome improvement over Mk3's 82 hours of rating. For a phone with a 4K screen, that is truly impressive.

Rkm, 11 May 2022That looks like a big jump forward in image processing. The... moreI compared the Mk4 and Mk3's photo quality just now using GSMArena's Photo compare tool and the Mk4 does indeed show a much-needed improvement over the Mk3. Definitely on my to-buy list, that's for sure.

Finally, Sony put a superb camera in their flagship!
And the phone itself is also quite great! But that charging speed and price tag...

First Sony phone I'll buy in ages.

That looks like a big jump forward in image processing. These kind of natural processing is timeless and stand the test of time. Glad Sony persisted with their philosophy.
Look at that foliage rendition, awesome.
