Russ, 24 Jun 2022So the article starts with a nod back to the iPhone 7 Plus ... moreAll them have periscope. Iphone does not.
Not their fault Apple still lacks a tech created in 2001.

Winner: Axon 40 Pro, bar none. Phone cameras usually produce very disturbing onion ring bokeh balls, but Axon is the only one that produces ones that don't hurt my eyes in both main and telephoto cameras.

                  Nice.
Can we now please finally ditch those awful portrait modes as any meaningful merit of smartphone camera reviews?
Those were and are just special effect camera modes, like miniaturize one.Fun to play with, but not photography wise worthy at all.

                      Why not include iphone

                        dont care about bokeh.
Even people in social platform just give Likes, even the bokeh is not good, the blur is not accurate, the edge sharpness is bad

Could have also tested other values, not just 85 and 125mm since phone can use any value between.

This test just shows how silly is "portrait mode" for front camera, when most of them are 20-23mm. People look way better in photos with 70-110mm.

The ZTE Axon is so awful that it blurs the subject's face. How utterly bad.

Wether it is a fault or not, that depends on the subject and on the result the photographer wants. Also keep in mind that in DSLRs you can always choose a narrower aperture and increase the depth of field, if bokeh is not desired

Bokeh? It's the least important thing in a camerphone.

For the price of most of these phones you can buy a decent phone AND a entry level dslr/mirorless (or even a pro level second hand older model). You can also tell that the glass lens of the xperia makes a difference when it comes to the look of the bokeh, which to my eye is the most pleasing in the comparison.

The zoom lens covers the zoom range which is best for portraits, which is a very common area of use for a smartphone.
