[deleted post]Well, I am not a GSMarena person, but in this case, I am in GSMarena side. iPhone 14 is deserved to that star rating. iPhone 14 is more than good phone (if it is not the best) and iPhone, in general, is more than good.
What make iPhone looks bad are: the price that not everyone can get, the price that make Android phones a visible choice, and the last but least, the iOS with limited functionality in some contries.

Apple could've just skipped the regular iPhone and priced the Plus at $799 for only this year. With the way things are currently, you can very clearly tell that the pricier Pro variants are the better deals, even better than they have been in the past. The regular iPhone took on the role of a sacrificial lamb.

Balcony patterns and moire do not look better than those on 13's 2x, meaning the new processing does not necessarily extract more details than the older one. I think Apple used a machine learning to reconstruct edges and reduce blurriness from upscaling. Some small patterns look weird (Details have been 'guessed' incorrectly), but it is not easy to notice them at first glance. Apple did a good job creating a sense of sharpness without resorting too much on excessive edge enhancement.

I just found out that at least one 2x zoom photo from the 14 Pro review was taken at the same time and approximately at the same distance.
So I have just compared one 2x zoom image from the 14 Pro with the 14. In some areas, the angular resolution of the 14 Pro 2x zoom is just slightly better, but in other areas it looks nearly identical and in a few areas the iPhone 14 2x zoom even seems to have a slightly better angular resolution! Very surprising.

That's what one would expect. But one would also expect that 2x2 ocl sensors only deliver 25% of the resolution. A 12 megapixel Dual Pixel sensor is actually a 24 megapixel 2x1 ocl sensor with a Dual Bayer colour filter array.
2x2 ocl (Quad Pixel) sensors have one microlens over four subpixels.
2x1 ocl (Dual Pixel) sensors have one microlens over two subpixels.

The 2x digital zoom really delivers more detail than a 1x crop and also more detail than the 2x digital zoom of the iPhone 13. And it also doesn't seem to be machine learning because machine learning only guesses or makes contours look smoother. But here it seems that you really get more true details. I can read numbers, which I can't read in the 1x images (at pixel level). There are details which don't exist at all in certain 1x images.

Same way 12MP imx703 ( this iphone) has 12 million with 2 photodiodes each.
[Not all QB from sony have 2x2 OCL. Most do not. ]
You are not going to get from them 24 and 100MP.

Canon has camera with 45M... moreNo, I wanted to say that maybe Apple has found a way to achieve a resolution comparable to 24 megapixels because it is a Dual Pixel sensor. Actually this should not be possible due to the microlenses, but surprisingly, a high resolution is possible with Quad Pixel autofocus sensors (Asus Zenfone 9).

Awful phone.
Apple should just make 3 devices of same size, like 6.3". All with A16.
- 1 with dual camera, 6GB/+ 128/256,
- 1 with triple camera, 8GB + 256/512
- 1 with triple camera and periscope , 12Gb + 256/512/1000, higher clocked cpu/gpu

The 2x zoom photos surprise me because the iPhone 14 doesn't have the 49 megapixel sensor. Though, there are sometimes bad artifacts (for example the clock) and it is not as good as a 2x camera.
Not sure what they have done here. The sensor actually has 24 megapixels because it is a dual pixel sensor and usually such dual pixel sensors can only produce 12 megapixel photos. But it's very surprising that high resolution Quad Pixel autofocus (2x2 ocl) sensor images are possible, so maybe high resolution dual pixel images are possible, too?? It actually shouldn't be possible, but I thought the same about Quad Pixel sensors and Samsung already advertised the dual pixel resolution in the past (Samsung has advertised 100 megapixel photos from the Gn1 sensor, but no smartphone company has shown that this is possible, rather the opposite).

Anyway, this crap is gonna be best seller phone on Earth in 2023.
