Huawei seems to have invested a lot in that lens module. 10 stop aperture control, excellent fine details rendering and the bokeh at f1.4 seems pretty good for a phone. Great hardware achievement. The image processing also is very mature.

And yes, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is one of the best smartphone cameras of 2022. It's WAY better than last year's Mi 11 Ultra.

Really impressed with the camera performance, especially the 3.5x zoom photos. Having different apertures really helps a lot with the depth of field, you can see how crisp and sharp the subject is while not having any soft edges on it. It may not have Google Mobile Services, which can be a huge turnoff to most people, but I can live without Google and I'm really liking this phone a lot.

You've seriously gone off the rails, trying to convince people a phone with a relatively small midrange sensor from 2020 takes better pictures than Samsung and APple's 2022 flagships and as good as 12S Ultra's 1" sensor.
I've been following your reviwes pretty much since GSMArena exists and the last couple of years they have been, frankly, disconnected from reality. A friend of mine linked this review to me to have a good laugh, but I feel sad one my most trusted tech review sites have degraded so much.

50 is a Quad Bayer count, the Bayer pattern is only 12.5mp, without some multi frame technique you don't get any more resolution than a 12.5mp Bayer sensor.

12.5/1.378 is 9.... more9 to 12.5 is little. Also, there is possibility that the crop is from 50, then downsized to 12.5.
It does not look crap , because it is not samsung doing it.

Just like the other phones that came before it, the lack of gms will hinder it, as a lot of people use google. App gallery is still far from being in the same level as the google playstore and the apple app store.

So that is a significant loss in resolution if it was a basic crop and upscale.
Yes the corners are never as sharp as the center because light has to travel further at the edges, this is made worse with camera movement.
