SShock, 17 Feb 2023Ok, some more info on photo snapping speed thing. You need ... moreYes, also I don't get why now there are 3 apps for photos on Samsung. Camera, ExpertRAW, and CameraAssistant, while it could be just one app with a few more settings.

Ok, some more info on photo snapping speed thing. You need to use "Camera Assistant" from Good Lock Labs on Galaxy Store. And here is a thing where a lot of misinformation is floating around.
"Quick tap shutter" and "Capture speed" options. Quick tap shutter option doesn't affect photo quality in any way, it just changes how (when) Camera app captures photos. By default Samsung snaps a photo the moment you actually raise the finger from the display, meaning you need to touch and lift finger (tap) very quickly to snap photo at exact time of display touch. Quick tap shutter reverses that in way that Camera app captures photo the moment you touch display without any need to also lift the finger as quickly as possible. This doesn't affect quality in any way and it baffles me why this isn't a default mode. "Capture speed" setting however can affect photo quality if you set it to prefer speed. But I think most users had problem with the first setting (when photo is captured on display touch9 and not by capturing process itself. I wish "Quick tap shutter" was a setting inside Samsung's app without having to download extra thing to adjust that.

Anonymous, 14 Feb 2023No. Because to record 8K from higher resolution, the higher... moreErm yes, but according to the specs the sensor supports a full readout at 15fps and 50MP@30Hz.
I can't tell how the sensor is read, so there might be some lineskipping happening, but at least from the quality of the 4k Video I doubt that.
The crop factor from photo to video mode is definitely aproximately 1.26. This holds for both 4K as well as 8K. If you do the math 16384/1.26 = 13000. Though would not say, that my results are perfectly accurate because, as I mentioned, I can't tell what type of readout and downsampling is happing inside the phone in each scenario.
But it definitely takes this region from the sensor for video and there are approximately as many pixels in this region maybe its 12900 maybe it's 13000 but not far from that.
And no, cameras do not need to support the video modes just because their're able to capture the resolution. Look at big DSLMs Sony A7s3 and A1 both do not support recording video with more than 8k or even 4k, even though both have a 50MP+ sensor from which they can take a full readout for video.

Anonymous, 15 Feb 2023Does it affect quality?"Higher megapixels affect the quality and compression" but in reality, no evidence provided about it anymore. Just saying.

Anonymous, 15 Feb 2023Cool propaganda broIt's not propaganda. When glass makers claim better drop resistance, there is no way they can maintain the hardness to resist scratching. You just can't have both. You have either scratch resistance or drop resistance. Only thing you can do is find a good balance, but you always trade one for the other. There is no way going past physics.
As for things suddenly getting scratched in pocket for no god damn reason, I know that very well.

Imagine Android had widgets since 2009. Iphones had it more than 10 years after and even then, you can't even dock it anywhere on the screen or resize it to whatever size and dimensions you want.

Quite the opposite actually. You can do everything you mentioned above in Android and so much more. Voice commands using Google assistant and voice transcribe are years ahead of Siri.

However the "one take" mode works well for capturing my dog in motion, even when she's at a full sprint

Ok, I take it back. At first I was annoyed that there is no regular white, but the Cream white on S23 Ultra is pretty. It's not even that much "cream" as it looks more like what I'd describe as "pearl white". I like it very much.

Tom, 14 Feb 2023I'd say it depends on the feature that gets left out. ... moreCloud storage is very battery consumming, makes the phone more hot and is slow. Cloud storage is really a retrograde to classic memory cards. It is incredibly frustrating that Samsung removed this feature.

Anonymous, 15 Feb 2023It's probably because prioritizing speed affects quali... morePeople say the "lag" exists even at binned resolutions. Some say lag is entirely from how camera app reacts to touch. By default it's designed to actually capture photo after user presses the SNAP button (on finger lift after the press). Opposed to snapping a photo the moment you touch SNAP button. Then again some say changing photo snapping mode to "Speed" just reverts this control, by snapping photo the moment you touch SNAP button. Some say it achieves this by degrading quality. So many contradicting information one can't even know what's really true.
