Adobe, capture one etc have much better sharpening and denoising algorithms than phones. Dxo photolab, topaz denoise etc can create clean images from old point and shoot raws which were shot at high iso. So, it's always nice to have a good usable raw during challenging conditions when you only have the phone with you and don't want to let go of the moment.

Leica Authentic mode, Zeiss mode etc are pretty dope and it's time that big guys like Samsung, Apple etc adapt it and give the users a choice. These can be easily done via software. Even if they don't get it right on the first go, it can be easily be fine tuned via updates.

Chinese branded phones don't have an identity with the average buyer here. They're all just considered Chinese phones. Also, most people in the states buy phones on contract and none of these vendors have relationships with carriers.

You guys have been tricked into believing the average consumer cares about software updates. They don't. It's a talking point for tech tubers and people that follow daily tech news. It's also just another point to bring an argument to a close. Just like the point about being stuck in Apple's ecosystem. Apple people love having all their devices under one brand. They just say they're "stuck" to get maniac droid fans off their backs.

I use my sigma 40 for taking food photos and I could never do that on a phone.

            The thing is

            YOU NEED BOTH

Because we want our handy phone that fits into our pocket to be there when we need it

The main thing on phones going forward will only be the camera(s) and AI to distinguish it from the crowd.

Chinese vendors pump out one of the best phones but something happens in software side, lack of support lifecycle and frequent updates for a long duration. Only if they'd fix their internal policies about software updates and Google Pixels would face a tough challenge.

And thats just micro 4/3 only. Ye its nice to have acceptable quality for small displays in your pocket but when u want serious nice photos u just take camera, real camera, not phone. So i dont understand too why some people wasting time with raw etc on smartphones. Results will bad anyway. Its like trying to make race car from Golf tdi.

Yes, if the scene is evenly exposed, that will definitely work - otherwise, you're just blowing out the highlights and losing all the information in these areas. Stacked RAW solves this problem by combining multiple exposures to capture information from both the deepest shadows and brightest highlights of the image, which is why I think it's a superior method as long as the stacking algorithms do a good job aligning frames while compensating for movements (Google's HDR+ is very proficient in this regard).

I mean compare to cameras. 99,9999 people just take photos in auto mode and dont care. I think its absolutly nonsense talking abou raw etc in smartphones with very bad senzors and low optics.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2023Raw is already the highest DR sensor is capable of physical... moreWhen stacking frames, you're effectively increasing the dynamic range by making the image less noisy and shadows more recoverable.

An option to shoot stacked RAW is becoming more common in smartphone cameras. Both official and unofficial GCam apps have been having that for years, Vivo and Oppo have their own implementation of stacked RAW (Called SuperRAW and RAW+, respectively), Samsung has ExpertRAW app to do pretty much the same, and even Apple gives you the ability to shoot in ProRAW where you can also choose to shoot in 48MP (which is actually pretty great detail wise).

While Samsung and Apple add some processing (which is far from ideal), at least compared to the single-frame counterparts, their multi-frame RAW files give you the leeway to edit the photos more flexibly.

It becomes extremely challenging when you only have less than 0.2s of recording time while also being limited by your own reflex speed, and the moment you want to capture will pass in a fraction of a second and might never come to you again. Also, this is something that I just found out too, but Samsung's camera app does seem to have a "manual" capture mode for super slow-mo.
