These brands should partner with adobe.
Low how nasty these jpgs are. Even someone with zero knowledge of editing ( like me) can in 20s tweak dng file and get better photos even out of phones with much smaller sensors like 1/1.56" , 1/1.76", 1/2"....
I no longer waste my time using jpgs.

why have the ai modes on? they are known to mess up the photos in grand ways. Also, it's kinda dumb to talk about how vivid vivo's shots are while you actively chose to use the vivo vivid mode instead of the zeiss natural one. If you guys actually took photos with both the modes you should've uploaded them. If not, then should've gone for the more natural mode since that's what matters most for people who actually care about photography. If I wanted something that just "looked good" I'd have gone for any of them and been happy with it. This comparison does not make much sense at all. If one were to use the argument that "well most people won't delve too deep into the settings" bruh they won't care so much about the camera quality to compare them either lmao
Anyways, the winners imo are easily the S23 Ultra and the Xiaomi 13 pro. If the 13 Pro had better HDR it'd have been the top one. Though sometimes it oversharpens like for example the second daylight photo, pretty weird.

ae86, 17 Mar 2023I think it all just go down with preferences, never liked a... moreI agree here. I dislike how they make the 'brighter, more vivid, and punchier ' photos seem like they are the best but come on, that's not what you're looking at. It's virtually false advertising.
I do like that Vivo has a natural mode but we shouldn't glorify overprocessed photos like they are the best.

Maybe we'll do a follow-up of this comparison with new devices if we get enough interest in this type of article.
Also, vivo is a BBK brand. And while the Find X6 Pro announcement is imminent, it's probably not leaving China. So which BBK phone would you include in a potential follow-up?

Doubt a lot of people know what these mean anyway, so we didn't highlight their significance as much as the rest of the specs as we didn't want to confuse anyone.

Xiaomi 13 Pro - 23mm f/5.0 (FF equivalent)

A mobile photography competition & you didn't include a Huawei flagship? That's just wrong, because Huawei has been the champ for years now...
Also, The BBK brands have come a long way in photography.

I think it all just go down with preferences, never liked a single shots by Vivo. overall I find the 12S Ultra the most appealing. brighter doesn't mean its better, 12S' deep contrast reminds me of Sony's it's often the less brightest resulting in somehow 'dramatic' shot. it also make the image much easier to edit, same with the 12S Ultra.
I can't imagine the result if I'd use vivo's and tweak it in let say Lightroom, it'll just look blown.

The Banding in the skies from the Samsung s23 ultra and Vivo 90 pro is horrible how come you haven't notice that. I wouldn't want to print my photo at all using those cameras the problem seems to be the multi stacking that the phones use. It's either too much compression or the frames ain't enlign properly. Forget about taking photos with blue skies in them.

Even if s23u had imx989, would lose.
Photos would have same excess of sharpening and worst colour science of all phones.
Time for bias youtubers stop claiming sharpening samsung abuses is real details.
