The colour science of Sony is horrible. There is always some intense tint on their pictures. Sush a shame, as the phone looks great.

Great review, as always. That being said, I wish you guys would get into a little bit more detailed comparison, especially with the predecessor (1 iv).

And no macro mode on a flagship cameraphone especially marketed towards content creators is something that only Sony understands...

How about take pictures to it? Can you do that with modern versions of Android? They can also use UFS 2 or 3 micro SD if they want, right? Don't know if Android or any phone every supported that though.

Good to see that Sony has finally overcome the overheating issues since the 1 III (plus some earlier models)

very appealing phone. my old xperia z5 had multi-aspect ratio support sensor, too. it is a great feature if you prefer shooting 16:9 like me. you can use the full sensor area in 4:3 and 16:9 modes with no crop happening.

I wish it would be around $1200 mark. I would also expect a better battery life using LTPO panel. static 120Hz is a 2020 flagship or 2022 midranger feature.

So many good cameraphones, including Sony, but honestly as far as camera goes, i could never choose outside of Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Oppo Find X6 Pro and Vivo X90 Pro+. These three are equal for me, i wouldn't care which of these i would have.

Anonymous, 12 May 2023You can use cloud storage on phones with microsd card slot.... moreI didnt said that. I just said that removing mSD slot is not as big problem as some complain if it is a problem at all. Its constant process of changing some technology in favour of other options to go forward. Like we dont have FDD or DVD drive in our PC and hardly anyone complains.

I remember how it was to load like 2000 photos gallery at smarthone from inserted mSD and how much faster it became at main UFS storage.

mSD vs UFS is awfully slow. Not only linear transfer but also long access time and terrible random read.

Just like how bluetooth headsets can be used on phones with 3.5mm jacks. But it seems like most of you are conditioned that having options is bad.

Cloud is way more efficient than microSD, its really just for people who use a lot of different professional equipment that cant access cloud/maybe saving emulated games on to it/photo editors needing to save large RAW files/handheld game consoles like the switch/home security cameras/door bells/go pros, normal everyday use they're just a hinderance tbh (i used to be a massive pro micro SD card user... When they were actually generally needed for just extra storage/cloud storage was expensive).

Also depends what market you're situated in, what features matter most too you and if you're will to sacrifice enjoayble android softeare experience (you wouldnt with the 2 phones youve mentioned, unless you enjoy the pixelOS/xperiaOS then its whichever you prefer using most).

And it is much more convenient and cheaper. Usually to remove mSD you have to first open the drawer, sometimes full size adapter is necessary. In case of USB you just plug in and done.

And keep in mind that USB is much more common than SD. You have USB in each and every laptop. You cannot say the same about mSD/SD.

Leanzazzy, 12 May 2023I really love that Sony is literally the only manufacturer ... moreIta because its a content creators/photographer phone so yes they need those features if using professional grade equipment with this phone, it makes sense and is worth the little extra and shows they care about their target audience (i give sony respect for some effort in to a lot of features).

Stock android is probably one of the worst experiences you can have using android, its just ios but less efficent and clunkier. Ive used pixelOS and i hated it, its just frustrating to use and doesnt make anything easier or more accessible. Oneui is overrated like flagship samsung devices (how gsm call the s23u the ultimate phone when its not got the best screen, charging, cameras and is one of the heaviest phones running oneui is beyond me).

I doubt unlocking the bootloader on miui is a problem at all, it isnt with my current oppo phone and last time i used a xiaomi phone is was just as easy so dont think it would be a problem still.

A throttling flagship chip still beats a high sustained mid range chip in basically every aspect, also web browsing, light gaming, content consumption probably wont even tickle the a715 cores nvm the x cores. Flagship isnt ranked based off sustained performance either just usually the parts they use/the main headling product line.

Sony have always had overheating and sustained performance issues. My 2013 z1 had the exact same issues, same with my mate when he had the z2, z5, XZ 2 premium and now xperia 1 ii.
