Sony needs to get out of the phone market. I don't know a single person who owns one of their phones. I'm sure the price is the main reason, but the software updates, large bezels and unusual aspect ratio have something to do with it too.

Why would the average person choose this over the upcoming Pixel 8 or the Galaxy S23?

MRSTEK, 01 Sep 2023You mean someone's gonna pay 300 bucks of premium just... moreOther brands will charge you much more than 300 Dollars when you max out your memory:

Here an example of the Apple iPhone 14 pro max : 1099 USD for the 128 GB base model, and 1599 USD for the 1TB model.

On the other hand: a Sandisk pro micro SD Card with 1 TB costs 102 USD (on amazon.com)

So, compare now: +500 Dollars more to have 1 TB
or: + 100 Dollars more to have 1 TB + 128 GB

If we are talking about price/GB-ratio, than the micro SD card wins hands down. It's not even a contest.

I have been using Xperia 5 III for 2 years and now its time for me to get another job phone but I think I will wait for pixel 8. I don't have a good experiences from using 5 III (overheating and al lot of bugs). Its weird that they got rid off zoom camera, I found myself using it quite often.
What do you think about waiting for pixel 8?

          Am a fan.
My only complain is the small 128GB internal storage

Ggfh, 01 Sep 2023The biggest con of this phone is it will be outdated in a f... moredon't believe what the chip vendors say, the difference is minimal no one will notice and just marketing, generation 2 is good for a few more years.

At least if you want to keep thar ugly bezel, add face ID
            Not just one camera
Also removing the telephoto camera and the price remains 1k
            What a scam
            They think people are fools

And if you need a serious answer, I got S23 from day one and haven't noticed any screen issue. Just checked some local tech fourms and no relevant information were found.

Could you elaborate it more precisely? What kind of damage? I'm just curious.

"The 2x zoomed photos are identical in quality to 2.5x zoomed ones from the Xperia 5 IV's telephoto camera."

Then, why not post photos from Xperia 5 IV under the exact same condition for comparison?

MRSTEK, 01 Sep 2023S23 has never been more appealing than now.S23? no.. S22 should be more precise. S23 is very overpowered for 5 V.

MRSTEK, 01 Sep 2023S23 has never been more appealing than now.And what about the damaged display of the S23? (If you look carefully, you can see an ugly, though perfectly circle-shaped injury on the top center of the VISIBLE screen area. And this is for ALL copies of S23. This is unacceptable for my standards.)

"the storage is only 128GB, and the price is €1,000"

This needs a different perspective: in most other phones the amount of memory is fixed and not expandable.
The Sony Xperia, on the other hand, can easily get a memory expansion for cheap: You can add a micro sd card at 512 GB for just around 40 bucks - something neither apples, samsung or asus phones offer.
One question though: was the throttling behavior improved over the notorious xperia IV line?
