After many people liked this phone a lot since it was released (including me), now reviews say this phone is average but not bad.

GSMarena should do more research especially the camera system. The Edge 40 has an ambient light sensor at the back (right beside the LED flash) which helps in determining the exposure and contrast while the Edge 40 Pro and 40 Neo do not have.

Shouldn't you re-make the battery best on "auto" instead of the overkill of constant 144Hz?

Overall pretty decent. Other than the HRR, the atrocious battery life is, on the face of it, tricky to explain. Scope for software optimisations, or just reflects an inefficient chipset?
Thanks as always for the thorough review @GSMARENA.

80 hours on the battery test? That's pretty bad actually. MediaCrap is far worse than Snap 695, Moto G84 is much better than this Neo

PanRT, 20 Sep 2023Why? pixel 7a better battery life
14:56h
18:12hTotal ratings still lower.
Pixel did the other things with 90hz, moto on 144hz so there is that.
Still really bad on both though.

Terrible colour accuracy on the display, absolutely terrible battery life, a poor camera, and Motorola's poor history with updates. Why would anyone buy this phone?

These kind of phones are always short of being great! The battery life is the main offender here, though I've exposed my concerns about how dated the battery tests on this site might be now, since Android has been more and more dependent on background optimizations for the first few days, even weeks. The Dimensity 7030 is decent though, the GPU hits harder than the 1080/7050 (another proof of the weird naming scheme Mediatek and Qualcomm have these days).

Great device for the money, but that 80hr battery is drawback. Soc is great and its 5000 mah, so it can been cause of bad optimization.

''Only two OS updates promised, and Moto hasn't been the fastest to deliver these in the past.''
Isnt this the same for all the Redmi/Poco phones as well?
Why is this not in the Cons on the way more expensive Poco F5 and F5 pro?
Hell why is this not mentioned even in the flagship Xperia 1/5 phones??
