Google Pixel 8 & 8 Pro hands-on review

They've got to bring back the matte-textured backs from the P4 and below.

From a design standpoint, the solid-colored matte finish on the P4 made it feel really unique. As well as the dual-toned glossy/matte backs from P3 and below.

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2023This has nothing to do with fanboys of other phones trollin... moreYet it's not lagging behind in anything but raw numbers that contribute nothing to actual usage. Battery usage, maybe, but even that gets mixed results. Depends entirely on your usage in the first place. It's such a reach, it's not even an argument anymore.

Until they fix the connectivity for 4G LTE and Wi-Fi calling outside the official release country and support 5G all over the world. They will stay a second grade mobile. I am still using pixel 6 but have to manually enable 4G VoLTE each time I update to allow me using the phone. Shame.

iPhone 15 pro max have a dedicated 5x zoom lens

Ravenowl, 15 Oct 2023To me it seems like other brands have been starting to roll... moreThis has nothing to do with fanboys of other phones trolling pixel because they are "scared" . If a phone is lacking, its bad and if its bad ,it will be trolled.

The pixel series is lagging behind other flagship competitors tremendously . A flagship is meant to be the perfect all rounder . If i wanted a phone that could only take good pictures and has a nice display and not care about performance then i would go for a xiaomi 13t or a samsung a54 or one of the vivo v series (which is hundreds of dollars less than the google pixel)

If they know their performance numbers wont be so good ,why the heck would they charge a $1000 plus ? They do that because they can milk out consumers who don't know any better than choosing a phone because of its brand name . I mean ,a phone made by google sounds good

JoXim, 15 Oct 2023Sadly, think this is the end of the road for Pixel phones..... moreWhat? Your feelings don't mean anything and Google's Pixel sales have actually been INCREASING. I definitely wouldn't want to go into business with you!

JoXim, 15 Oct 2023Sadly, think this is the end of the road for Pixel phones..... moreSamsung used to do that in the Nexus Era* I remember the galaxy S4 with stock Android, it was a beauty.... while I bought the one that had the Samsung layer from those times... I hope Samsung will release an s23 ultra or an s24 ultra with pixel experience, ufffg that would be a masterstroke

                When screen is even off.

Above 14h for internet and video, means easily it can last the whole day.

Now if user is addicted or turns phone into playstation, not even 7000mAh battery would help.

GsmArena should inform potential Bg byers that Pixel phones don't work in Bg 5G networks.

I personally think curved displays were the worst thing to ever befall smartphones. I'm glad flat displays are coming back.

As you can see, the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 is basically similarly-performing with the Tensor G3.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2023Yeah, so you all be 💩 on google when they charge $120-140 m... moreI would be perfectly fine with the Tensor chipset for the Pixel 8 Pro, as long as it can achieve a battery endurance score of over 100. My initial recommendation of the Snapdragon chipset was driven by Google's significant lag in battery life compared to flagship phones from Samsung and Apple, which remained a concern even with the Pixel 7 series. If the Pixel 8 Pro scores less than 100 or even falls short of 90 in the battery endurance test, I would recommend incorporating a 65W fast charging feature in the Pixel 9, regardless of Google's choice to stick with the Tensor chipset

dbjungle, 15 Oct 2023This is relevant to practically no one.Weird when so many here have courage to every year spend unnecessary money on new phone just to have 1-2fps more while playing silly games.

dbjungle, 15 Oct 2023Which part of the hardware is terrible? What aspect of the... moreIt's unfortunately true. I have had the pixel 8 pro for 3 days now and my snapdragon 870 powered Poco f4 literally a quarter of the price has far smoother scrolling.

Scrolling text feels like your operating at 15fps. Regardless of what settings I use.

Thinking of selling and going to a Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra.

Google have dropped the ball here. I'll make my ultimate verdict after the December updates.

But pretty disappointing to be honest

The moral of the story is if you want real photos, go for iPhone and if you want fake photos, like something is in dark but phone will make someone think it is taken in daylight, is IMHO fake, go for Pixels. It's personal choice but I will always prefer a more true to life something than an artificially created. I wish Pixels doesn't automatically switch to night mode. That damn "mode" is there for a reason.

I have a Pixel 2 XL that has been my daily driver for 7 years, I still don't see a real reason for me to upgrade. That's how gracefully the phone has aged. I tried my wife's OP 5t which was released around the same time, i must say this really showed how well Pixel was handling my daily workload, OP 5t could barely handle it. Reason I say this here, all these reviews don't do justice to Pixel phones software magic according to me.

thedeepdivesnap, 15 Oct 2023"It's not exactly pretty and lacks the novelty of... moreTo me it seems like other brands have been starting to roll out the troll farms because the Pixel line-up is catching up as an actually usable device for people. Well, or of course the hardcore fanboys are realizing their meaningless brand loyalty is wavering. Things that are "good" elsewhere are suddenly "bad" here. Even the screen that has been said to be among the best screens ever is suddenly "underwhelming". The sheer irony. Literally the only valid thing they've got is that the SoC isn't hitting top numbers, which is irrelevant for actual use anyway. It's a phone, you ain't rendering videos and 3D animations on it.

dbjungle, 15 Oct 2023This is relevant to practically no one. That is true.
Even my Xperia 5 II that is, according to Benchmarks, still vastly worse than the Tensor 3, runs games like Genshin perfectly fine at 60 FPS. Obviously, not at Max/Ultra settings, but at that screen size you can barely make out the difference between Ultra and Medium (well, realistically the difference is never major, even on PC). It's just a prime example for how damn bored and uneducated people are these days. Higher number equals better, regardless of reality. Same reason people buy Apple. That checks all those boxes. Most expensive (alas good to them) and you could train your dog to use it.

Bodygard, 14 Oct 2023"if you don't mind the jittery scrolling" &... morethat is utter rubbiosh, i watched a ton of reviews on youtube, where people actually showed the phone and the scrolling on it, and it is as smooth as any other normal working 120hz phone on the market!
