Look at how many negative comments. Gladly more brands will stop following google/samsung approach because it is wrong, ugly and disgusting.
Some chinese are doing already. Even apple is slowly turning away from this with 15 series.

I am scared to buy OnePlus. Green lines and all, remember? Don't know what's next with this pricey one.

Hopefully, apple who usually hoard their competitors design and tech will copy this screen ration and creaseless screen. Samsung seems sastified with their long phone but I find it too uneven...

No foldable will ever get me to buy it unless it has a folded/front display that is similar to a phone like the Google Fold. 80% of my time is there and it needs to be a usable screen that is not so narrow. I only open the phone to mini tablet for when surfing the web or watching media.

I'm quite surprised at the photo results. Curious about what dxomark will have to say about it. Not that I consider them the gospel, mind...
How would the staff at GSM Arena place this camera compared to Pixel 8 pro, iPhone Pro 15, Xiaomi 13 Pro/Ultra, S23 Ultra, Honor Magic5 Pro?

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2023More noise reduction.
More sharpening ( when should not be... moreJust to illustrate my point - here is the comparison between Xperia 1 V and OnePlus Open, I opened GSMArena's samples from both phones and magnified 300% to prove my point. You can see that Xperia's photos have considerably stronger sharpening applied.

(Ignore the "Are you 18" warning on Imgur, the album literally just consists of two screenshots of GSMArena's camera samples so there's nothing inappropriate here)

Sony has this tech.
Apple has this tech.
Oppo has this tech.
Vivo may use it as well.
At some point, all main cameras of all flgaships will be Exmor T, except Samsung, Google and Motorola that will be tied to inferior isocell/omnivision hardware.
Keep binning 9, 16, 25 and 36 samsung, instead of creating useful tech.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2023It is not. But should be since it has f1.7 vs 1.9 , both 2... moreI'm afraid I'm not seeing any photo where Xperia managed to top OnePlus, during both day and night. You can't really beat the best when you're not the best, I guess.
"Your compliment is just because it is oppo"
Go ahead and disregard the fact that I've been always saying OnePlus' camera was mediocre🤷 I'm just praising it because it's actually looking great now.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2023More noise reduction.
More sharpening ( when should not be... moreI see MORE sharpening baked into Xperia's shots compared to those from OnePlus, which are probably the most natural-looking photos I've seen from a phone camera since Mate 30 Pro. OnePlus' noise reduction also seems to be a lot "smarter", continuing the trend from Find X6 Pro by selectively getting rid of noises from areas where there are little to no textures to begin with (e.g. sky) while preserving high-frequency details such as grass and fine tree branches.
Huawei was on the right track until the ban kicked in, and I've been seeing Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo slowly picking up their pieces to finally get to the place where they are right now. Sony's processing has been quite neutral for the last few years too, but I would say Open's image processing is by far the best you can find on any smartphone camera, bar none.
"Higher level of distortion"
I don't think you understand what distortion means.

More sharpening ( when should not be even 5% compared to dng files, at least not 100% like google ).
Should also have been bway etter considering it was taken way closer to subject ( hotel front view) and it helps when viewing 1:1 ..
Higher level of distortion.

Nick Tegrataker, 19 Oct 2023I would say Open's main camera is FAR superior to Xper... moreIt is not. But should be since it has f1.7 vs 1.9 , both 24mm.
If these photos were equal but from any brand like Htc, Asus , Motorola, then you would bash. Your compliment is just because it is oppo.
At least it does not look like wax this time, like it has been since FX3 series.
Anyway , FX7 Pro will be using it, while Pro+ goes imx989.

Kaloyan, 19 Oct 2023I think the standby component is gone completely, as it is ... moreHi, as for the camera performance, did you guys shoot the studio test chart before shooting those photos in real life, and were these done in the same software version? I found it quite odd because the latter seems to be a lot more natural compared to the former which seems to have much stronger noise reduction applied, so I would definitely love to have that clarified. Thanks.
