MarOMG, 01 Feb 20247 years of OS updates sounds great. But would you want it? ... more7years of OS updates helps a lot the used market.

And there are people these days that actually use older flagships the same way many others do that change devices frequently.

Calls, social media, content consumption, web browsing, checking emails/texting,maybe some casual gaming.

A Galaxy Note9(especially Snapdragon 845 version, not Exynos),holds well even today for all the above despite being a 2018 device.

MarOMG, 01 Feb 20247 years of OS updates sounds great. But would you want it? ... moreI have an S8 as a backup phone (of my backup phone, which is a Samsung Note 10, lol) and it still works like a charm. The ONLY problem with it is that it has stopped receiving software updates a long time ago so it's missing out on all the new features, but for those who don't need/care about those feature, it's a very serviceable phone even today. So I can certainly see the attraction of 7 years of support.

They go too far with that virtual proximity sensor. It is just downright unacceptable for $900+ phones

The virtual proximity sensor is a cheap touch, though at least it won't readily malfunction like the real proximity sensor on my Note 10 does (but the one one my even older Samsung S8 still works without issues; go figure!)

Looks like the marketing for S23 went really well compared to this one.

7 years of OS updates sounds great. But would you want it? Its like using Galaxy S8 today with it's Exynos 8895. Helio G99 has more power than that chip. Or even Snapdragon 685.

This is an easy skip, especially the Exynos version.

I also expected a bit more on the brightness part.

Its a pretty phone design wise, but its an overall disappointing one.

I was shocked by the inclusion of the virtual proximity sensor.
And lackluster performance across the board (don't just read the reviewer's words, see and hear the evidence provided in the review).

I really hope Samsung finally hit the rock bottom and they can only rise from now on.

Are they reviewing the 128Gb version or the 256 one?

You will see difference in 50 MPixel photos.
But, only 12Mpxels are in review.

Love its look, minor change but cute.

It's also nice they lower the picture smoothing for more details.

Never Exynos anyway. Don't trust any benchmark, in real life it is exoshit. And at 900, it's a scam.

I target 8gen3 ( not eu ), but not at 900. After two months or three usually zamzung lower price significantly, but don't say it haha.

Anonymous, 01 Feb 2024This site suffers a bit from the same problem as Apple: lar... moreConversely, if the AI chip features aren't the game-changing ones you make them out to be - and I genuinely don't know either way! - you have basically a small iterative S23 upgrade for half as much again. The Pixel 8 offers the same machine learning and updates-to-2030 selling points for less too, but has a last-year SOC, and not even the best one at that.

Makes for a fascinating decision to make if you're in the market for a compact flagship right now. But at least the answer to "best smol phone at any price" does seem to still be this.

Zuzuz, 01 Feb 2024Xiaomi 14 is betterBetter in some areas, worse in others. The rear camera hardware would be the main advantage of the Xiaomi 14. The s24 is also a lot more compact than the Xiaomi 14 though and a lot lighter so for people who like smaller lighter phones it still has an advantage.

S24 should've had 12GB of RAM; UWB; autofocus with macro for the ultrawide; a 1/2.5"-type (or larger) 12MP 3× periscope telephoto; 256GB and 512GB storage options (no UFS3.1 128GB pls Samsung ffs); and the 50MP 1/1.31"-type GNK sensor for the main camera (the one with Staggered HDR that Google is using for the Pixel 8 Pro). Of course, this list is the bare minimum of what should've been done, and is not an exhaustive list by any means. I'm still very much disappointed in Samsung, but tbf unless they step up their game, soon someone is going to smash them like what happened to BlackBerry and Nokia, and I would be fully for it if it meant there could be a competitive environment, though not if it meant a duopoly again.

This site suffers a bit from the same problem as Apple: largely ignoring AI, especially the fact that the S24 line can do on-chip AI, which requires very advanced hardware to do it efficiently. Also, doing cloud-AI for free and with decent privacy is not something that the Chinese manufacturers can offer. I would not get anything else within this budget today, because AI is crucial for increased productivity (aka if you are not only a gamer or TikTok user).
