OnePlus 12R review

Anonymous, 06 Feb 2024Id also prefer the 16gb ram over the puny 8gb or 12gbram in... moreAgain, I wasn't talking about the RAM but the deceptive tactics that OnePlus uses. I used a OnePlus 7 previously and I still regret updating it to this day.

Leaving OS aside, The crux of my comment was that,
They could have just rebranded the base variant (12+256) and could price it around ₹40k and would still make a profit. Many counterparts does it with a price difference of ₹5~7k price difference with Chinese price. Heck Iqoo 12 did it at a diff of ₹5k.

But they still chose to launch a 8+128, which consists of a lower variant of LPDDR5X and a UFS 3.1 ??

Why? Just for the marketing purposes and making more money.
Which variant would most consumers buy? The base.
Which variant would all reviewers receive? The 16+256.

And trust me, The difference b/w UFS is day and night.

To conclude, This is a deceptive tactic to save money. This is not the OnePlus that I used to love, These are the ways of oppo. How OnePlus has fallen.

oneplus never offers their stock ROM firmware for download. This is very bad for open source development. Without access to stock boot.img you cannot root your device!!! What's the point of allowing bootloader unlock if you do not offer your stock firmware for download? Now you cannot even revert back to previous Android version!
And no I am not going to use an unofficial 3rd party app to download the firmware from some unknown 3rd party server. That app is not supported by the manufacturer...

YourPhoneEnthusiast, 06 Feb 2024It's crazy how no one acknowledges the fact that OnePl... moreId also prefer the 16gb ram over the puny 8gb or 12gbram in the pocos 256gb and the excellent snapdragon 8 gen 2 which is more efficient than the gen3 and any 2nd tier dimensity. Also xiaomis dont have 1000ms touch sampling the list could carry on. I own a xiaomi 12t pro 8gb ram coming from a oneplus 8 12gb ram. Its horrible.. Normally only have about 3gb ram left.. Hardly enough for upcoming games like warzone and division resurgence. Seriously just try a oneplus if you can afford one.. My xiaomi 12tpro feels like a downgrade apart from the screen and chipset been a little better.. It also helps that oneplus do that greeny blue back, looks great. Xiaomis/redmi/poco look too generic and cheap which is what they are 100%.

No good if we cant get one on the carriers. Three mobile uk used to do them. They're normally really good on battery and destroy unoptimised xiaomis. I now own a xiaomi instead of a oneplus phone. Please i dont want xiaomi or Samsung which feels just like a premium xiaomi although the s24 ultra screen is to die for with its extremely low reflection in sunlight. Bring our oneplus back otherwise i will just get a galaxy ultra for the software updates and the screen.. You are losing customers to xiaomi big time because you can't supply the phones.

If a phone weighs more than 200 grams, it should be classified as a portable power bank with smart capabilities instead of a smartphone. When will this insanity end.

Mike4, 05 Feb 2024Exactly, its actually 759 euros at my nearest retailer toda... moreIn my country its £650 for pre order off the oneplus site for the top config model (16 gb ram, 256gb storage) and that actually CANT be beaten at that price.

Saying poco x6 pro beats this, a £400 phone that is actually only better in it being a 12 bit display and bt 5.4 over bt 5.3, in every other aspect this phone is just better from a more power efficent and slighlty higher res screen, better charging, better wifi spec, better build quality, better cameras with high framerate recording, better ip protection, bigger battery, an actual proximity sensor.

People saying the s23, thats a £500 flagship that has a worse screen in every aspect, slower charging, tiny battery, worse comms like wifi, bt, no IR blaster, just better usb spec if you do physical data transfer, it looks like the same main cam on both that'll do x2 zoomed pics just fine... Really isnt a better choice. (nor the s23fe being anywhere near good enough).

I'd go for a year or 2 old flagship (usually xiaomi or oppo purely based on better prices for used prices plus usually in better condition too) but £650 for the top config version isnt really that bad and after 6 months it'll probably drop to more like £400-£450 new.

IP68, Wireless charging and esim are missing which is a disadvantage at this price

Anonymous, 06 Feb 2024Amazing how little you get for 700 euro these days...True... Even Nord 3 from Oneplus is a bit too expensive, but still a way better buy than the 12R

Take the Nord 3 and save 30-40%.. the experience is the same, you skip the display with curves, and you get the same okay camera setup

It's crazy how no one acknowledges the fact that OnePlus launched a 128GB variant (UFS 3.1). In 2024? When even Poco X6 Pro gives UFS 4.0??

The price gap of 6k (~$72) between the variants speaks volumes.

At this price a 12mp ultrawide is a must.

This is a pretty solid phone in the US for $500. Not many good mid-rangers at this price in the US. Curved glass is kinda annoying though....

For 700 EUR this phone is DOA in Europe. It's competing with the Pixel 8, S23 and Xiaomi 13, while having useless low-res secondary cameras. OnePlus may clear their inventory of 2MP cameras on the Nord series, not on a device this expensive.

                                        >No telephoto camera
