Nokia E71 review: Messenger of steel

24 July 2008
Following some time off since the E51, the Nokia E-series is back to the shop with a new pet for business-minded users. Nokia E71 seems to have it all to take over and build on the E61 QWERTY messengers' expertise. The suave upgrade is...

Good Work Nokia.. Been with the E71 for two weeks...

My Wish List for the next E smart phone:
1. bigger screen like the E61i
2. better camera (better colour, mp and editing feature)
3. slightly bigger buttons
4. built in and integrated string sms feature similar to palm treo
5. Easy dialing feature
6. Full screen contact image shown on screen when calling in
7. profile scheduler

What I like about the e71!
1. Slim design
2. solid build
3. great buttons and D-pad
4. fast and easy sync even using bluetooth
5. fast wi-fi connection

Hi, the phone is great in theory but in my area the signal is terible because of the metal case and the battery it's not so good for the pourpouse i use it. I recomand HTC or BlackBerry because they have more experience in this field of smartphones and the quality is better.

Anonymous, 25 Jul 2008The perfect phone for me. Synchronizes perfectly with Lotus... moreThe left softkey is also used to lock the key pad (pressing the left softkey quickly followed by the * will lock the key pad).

To add to the review, as I just got an E71-2 (US Version):

        - The US version does not seem to have the 2GB MicroSD included
        - Nor the nice Advanced Call Manager - I googled and found it at www.nokia-asia.com/A41163468
        - Nokia maps GPS is slow - Google maps is much better! (Plus doesn't try to make you pay for simple directions)
        - YouTube mobile works (Launches Realplayer, plays a 176x132 video) as well as full-site YouTube in the browser, but flash in Web is naturally more laggy.
        - DON'T try to load up your 4 year old, 13,000+ msg IMAP mailbox! Even if it is just headers and a few hundred K, the messenger app can't handle it and completely bogs down. Thin it out to a few hundred first.

Hi everybody, I have the e71 for almost two weeks, kindda disappointed with the GPS connection as it take some 10 to 15 minutes to get connected and sometimes not getting any fix at all even under the open field. Do anyone with this phone face the same problem? other then this, the smart dial shown on the review was nowhere to be found, does this happened outside asia market?
Thanking in advance for any pointer.
                    Cheers!

Bought the phone assuming that it would support BlackBerry services.

Feeling so disappointed now, since BlackBerry services can not be configured on E71.

The phone is so good looking and temping, I just didn't bother to check if, it does have BlackBerry support. My mistake.

If you are looking for BlackBerry compatible phone, it is not the one you should go for.

Or if you have some other ideas, do let me know at n.gaur@msn.com

                      Thanks in Advance !

bungkus, 25 Jul 2008Hi, I own nokia E61i, and very enthusiast to buy the new... moreIronically, if you want multi-language support, the phone with the most complete language support, input methods, and the nicest fonts seems to be the iPhone. Your mileage may vary, and the new 2.0 software is buggy, but if Nokia doesn't get their act together and add GOOD unicode support, including FONTS, to the E-Series, they're going to be left in the dust in this market segment.

I, too, have felt the shame of having to call people because my E61 shows only empty boxes for an SMS or email message in another script. This "call of shame" alone is terrible negative marketing for Nokia.

Localized phones are nobody's friend; I need support for Japanese and Chinese, simultaneously, in my address book, SMS, web browser, and email. While I could (eventually) import an E71 from either of these markets, I still wouldn't get the universal support I need. Get with the game, Nokia!

Since i was using E61i also it was perfect, E71 comes to improve to everybody and specially for BalckBerry, stay away from the way of the GSM manufactring NOKIA concept.
Its amazing phone, fast , proformance , apperiance, all perfect

                                Tocca Tocca Hey Hey!
I read in your review that this E71 comes with a wrist strap. This makes me happy and I will buy the phone because of its looks and texting but also because a wrist strap makes the product secure in the hand to hold.
It beats me why them at The Nokia didn't put in a better camera to round of the deal for me and my photo antics.
I am going to get this and swap my 'i900 tocca' for the ipod phone too.
