Guys, this phone is rather good overall, but there is also realme 12+ , there is preview on site. And it is in no way worse than this, in some regard even better: realme would have branded Sony sensor lyt 600 , and not this hot and incapable "exystove" sorry, lol, but a bit better one dimensity 7050. And also is realme almost 100 usd american dollars cheaper. So, how is it faired actually? Which one is preferable?

Anonymous, 23 Mar 20241) The one I bought was from the biggest electronics retail... more1) What class and model?
2) scrolling issue is a combination of devs too lazy to write a well thought gallery app which would store the thumbnail cache on the internal memory and scan/build it beforehand - and scoped storage since android 11, which prevents apps from native file access and slows file access down considerably. Google fcked that up, as always.
But yeah, best option would be a removable ufs standard so you could upgrade your internal storage just like an ssd in a pc. Mini boards like raspberry pi would also benefit from that, instead of slow mmc.
Still, we shouldn't argue against options like microSD for convenience and compatibility! I'd wish they would get more consumer friendly again, instead of removing every feature to save a penny.

I don't know why people still buy Samsung budget phones and mid-rangers, they're mediocre at best with very little upgrades. Only the S23 FE and higher are properly good, and even those get a 10 MP crappy telephoto camera that you can notice immediately when the quality drops

I’m actually shocked to see this score just 0.1 point lower than the superior Nothing Phone 2a. There’s surely something up there.

Firefox, 22 Mar 2024Internal storages are not 100% safe either. Due to software... moreWell much safer than MicroSD cards. Plus, microSD slows down the phone.

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2024After having all my photos corrupted on the SD card on my o... moreYou realise data can corrupt by it just exsisting right? Ive also had data on an sd card be corrupted so became completely unuseable (just by sitting in a phone years ago). Things do happen unfortunately.
Also i dont/didnt disagree with the more storage options, its why i generally go for chinese brand phones that generally give you 8gb/256gb as standard, just personally for me (not saying its right or wrong, just my experience) ive not needed a card for about 8 years now, in the UK speeds arent great (i dont think we even make it in the top 10 for consistency/top speeds).
I live in areas (still a main city basically in the centre of it too) where walking down a road can go from 5g to no signal at all or walking upstairs in a house does the same thing, 30 mins of a 40 min train journey i have to di to manchester basically has no connection, still watch youtube fine and instantly uploads pics i take to cloud, for me cloud is just superior at this point or I'd go portable SSD which can be hooked up to a pc, laptop, tablet, TV etc (for me personally, i want easiness now, why i prefer BT headphones).
It would be nice IF all phones gave the option but at this point it honestly isnt much of an issue anymore (unless your country/area is that bad for cloud/data connection). It is good samsung offers the option wuth this and some of its devices still 😊

Bodygard, 23 Mar 2024What good is a lot of OS updates if after the 2nd year the ... moreI think it's the security updates that matter more than the software (android version) updates.
I'd rather have a slow but secure phone with many years of updates than a fast but compromised phone in which case I'd be forced to upgrade anyway if I wish to use any banking apps.
This is based on my use case though, which is where I use a device for a good 4 to 5 years at least before even I think of upgrading.
As for the lagging after a major OS version update, backup all data beforehand and do a factory reset after upgrading to the new OS version. Then once reset, restore the old data and redownload the apps.
Now I know it's easier said than done and that it's quite a loathsome process but in my case I've noticed a night and day difference after i started doing that post major updates :)

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2024Oh and flagships should start at 512GB or actually 1TB. At ... moreAgreed on 512gb starting point for internal memory 🙌🏻.
It doesn't have to be the latest UFS 4.x kind, even 3.x is good enough for me.

Anonymous, 23 Mar 20241) The one I bought was from the biggest electronics retail... moreThat's most unfortunate.
Regarding the speed though, what was the speed class and video class of the card you had?
A UHS-1 + V30 standard SD card should have sufficient sustained write speeds for 4k recording in a mobile phone these days and have more than decent read speeds too ( for smooth scrolling etc).
I personally use an A54 with a 256gb SD card of the above speed class and so far so good, no laggy scrolling etc in my case ( also while the card is 50% filled).
Anyways yeah, SD card slot is no excuse to skimp on the internal memory capacity in this day and age 👍🏻.

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2024I shared many thoughts in two other comments. For your case... moreHi there, thank you for that well thought out reply and I agree with you on all accounts, that the manufacturers have no excuse to skimp on the internal memory these days given how low decently fast flash storage prices have fallen.
I do backup both my internal and SD memory to my HD periodically. This data loss happened during an in-between period, within 24 hours under the most unfortunate circumstances (not even having a data cable or a laptop/ any external storage at hand).
In my haste I misunderstood you to be one of the "SD cards are dead, cloud is the future" zealots, my sincere apologies for that✌🏻.
More internal storage + SD card slot ftw! 🙌🏻

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2024Oh and flagships should start at 512GB or actually 1TB. At ... moreIf that was true, it would actually make sense to use the 4k60 video recording capability, out of the box. But even at 256GB, 4k60 is just a gimmick if it fills up the storage in no time. Same argument could even be said about 4k30. Just using 1080p30 or 1080p60, depending on the preference, seems like a good middle ground as long as manufacturers are scalping storage instead of giving the amount of storage that fits the money spent.

Reality..., 22 Mar 2024Well, the reverse of your experience happened to me. My old... moreI shared many thoughts in two other comments. For your case, you would have been able to keep all your data and didn’t need cloud storage (I don’t use it either other than the free tier because I don’t like monthly subscriptions) if you backed up your entire phone to external storage. I‘ll say for backup purposes an HDD is okay but SSDs are so cheap now that it should not be a major investment to get like a half terabyte external SSD (at least not in first world countries).
Using a microSD as a help for too small internal storage (Btw I personally do this on my laptop but I hate it and would rather have bigger internal storage. As said previously, it‘s a bandaid solution) is not a good solution in any way except cost. It for sure is the cheapest way to get big storage. But as I said in my initial comment, flash is so cheap now that manufacturers should just put enough of it into the phone in the first place. If I can get a 1TB SSD for $40, why do some $500 phones still ship with 128GB? Why are storage upgrade prices like $100 in the case of high end phones? It’s the phone industry (and many others like laptops as well) ripping off people and then for the lower end (those who can’t afford overpriced storage upgrades) they proclaim slow, unreliable microSD as the solution even though they could just put more storage in the first place.
What I‘m trying to say is that when people say stuff like „I don’t care if it only has 64/128GB as it has microSD support“ on phones of the price class of A35, that’s actively helping the companies scalping the storage prices. On super low end sub $100 phones, sure, more 128 GB might not realistically fit into the budget (yet) and microSD can be used (for the time being). But anything higher and 256GB and more should be standard or at least an option at not much more cost. And especially at this $400-500 mark, 128GB should straight up not exist in 2024 and the 256GB should be sold at the price the 128GB is sold now.
