Funny how some say it should be at most €1000.
When this price is what you pay for crap Huawei P70 that is worse than mark 2.

besides, a mobile phone has to be "handy" at the same time, contain more info at a glance and has to comply to "contents"... 🤔

A phone really ought to have an aspect ratio of that of a standard sheet of paper. Anything else feels unnatural.

somehow, i do not plan to upgrade this year as well, but i fear that the next xperia 1 will also have fhd+...
that would be disappointing for me, as i rely on sony for that uninterrupted display...
            ...
good to know that you also have the experience with lg...
i have the lg v50s, with fhd+, but with 6.4 display...
and it is really noticeably less sharp especially when viewing photos, watching and recording videos...
            ...
now, i wonder, if those people who nitpicked 21:9 and said they'd buy it if not only of the "tall" aspect ratio would eventually buy it...
maybe if sony finds out that it was a "fake" consumer demand, they'd bring back 21:9 in the future... maybe the 8th or 9th gen of xperia 1... i am hoping for that...

Anonymous, 18 May 2024This shows we desperately need to return to 18:9 ratioThe LG V 20 has the best aspect ratio and size, as well as features, of any "smart" phone I've had. I have not been able to find any that I liked as much. It is the type of phone you use, not one you admire. You just use it as a tool.

As I've said, I was disappointed because it isn't available in the U.S., it's too pricey and it's still too narrow for what I like but that is indeed the aspect ratio. It was announced by Sony. People have seen it in person.

I don't know anyone who has a phone of any brand that hasn't given them some problems. Again, my major complaints about Sony phones are their price and lack of availability.

Anonymous, 17 May 2024FHD = mid range displayDon't worry, you still get to pay the full price of the 4K display.
Let's just hope that it doesn't get green lines like the Xperia 5 series has.

BigBingusBingingMan, 17 May 2024This phone really tries to be a flagship but kinda fails I... moreThose phones don't have features most Sony customers value. Expandable memory and a headphone jack. The headphone jack isn't only useful for audio quality. I obviously haven't heard the vi but the LG g 8 and v60 do sound significantly better than the 5iii. I like plugging in headphones or ear buds when I get a call. Yes, I do occasionally use my phone as a telephone. I'm old. It's much easier to do that by plugging the jack in rather that turning on Bluetooth or fiddling around with a dongle that can screw up the charging port.

Anonymous, 17 May 2024your comment is just one example of the point i mentioned -... moreI am not young. I wear glasses. I notice the increased screen resolution on my lg g8 even with a cracked screen. I usually had it set to less in order to conserve the battery. I notice the higher resolution but didn't miss it on the V60 which is the same as the VI which I can't buy in the U.S. anyway. I think that there would be less complaints if the price had been reduced but it wasn't.

Now, this is a minority opinion here. I have a 5iii with battery drain now (I babied that battery, too) and was planning on getting the VI because I find the narrow screen to be annoying. I was disappointed that it won't be available in the U.S. but less disappointed when I noticed that it is only slightly wider, not significant enough for me.

I recommend the last years flagships, be it Iphone or Samsung, whatever you prefer, it's gonna be cheaper and likely better than this

Kuki, 17 May 2024Another phone that no one needs 🥸 I miss living in a time in which no one needed a "smart" phone.

I was looking foward to buying one of these because it has most of the features I use that have been removed from other phones. Expandable memory, headphone jack, apparently improved audio through wired headphones and new lossless Bluetooth codecs. It seems like it isn't going to be available in the U.S. so I can't get it anyway but the cost would have made me think twice anyway. The macro photography is useful but phones now seem to be obsessed with photography. Professional and amateur photographers prefer real cameras, I still prefer film. Even if a phone camera could become as good as a real camera, the feel of holding a real camera, using a view finder, being able to switch lenses, just isn't the same. Phone reviews focus almost entirely on the cameras of these things and then go into a little detail about the battery, screen and haptics. When they review the audio they refer to the small limited phone speakers, not through headphones or through large normal speakers. There are two things that seem to never get mentioned. Reception and phone call quality. Those things don't matter these days, I guess, because phones are supposed to be used to take photos to be put on social media sites, not for having phone conversations. I am old. Since this phone doesn't seem like it's going to be released in the U.S. and other countries, perhaps there will be reviews of how other countries' models work in countries they aren't available in. You can check the bands, of course, but it would still be helpful. That would mean importing a phone, though, as Sony isn't about to provide one for that sort of review. Still, I would like to see reception and phone call quality mentioned in all phone reviews with as much interest as in the camera.
