Tamada, 26 May 2024Quite unfair.
1 - the pace at which new phones are going ... moreI can assure that you do not fought for those company, so don't try to make this kind of statement. All company has tried at the beginning and many other company has failed due to the rising of China brand, so please don't say this lightly.
Then, who can change their smartphone and tablet every year? You? Majority don't do it.
Also, those company that fight this war are fighting with high stake too, the one you still seeing now a day might be winner for today, but could be loser a few years later.
So, just buy whatever available now, don't talk shit about the past and also we cannot predict the future.

You can go with inferior performance smartphone of the same price, but put priority on camera, there are plenty smartphone out there. By this era, user must do some research before buying something, especially smartphone at this kind of pricing.

enotar, 26 May 2024Poco f5 pro user here. I am not sure it is worth upgrading.... moreThis kind of budget smartphone don't guarantee to have upgrade or what due to it's pricing and budget. The only incremental upgrade is the 8Gen2, the rest cannot guarantee is an obvious upgrade or not. Similar story to those flagship smartphone every year, each year iteration doesn't makes huge upgrade. If really talk about the missing thing is the POCO F6 Pro lack wireless charging, which POCO F5 Pro has it. Also for it's pricing, if really don't want stay for 8Gen2, 8Gen3 budget smartphone is not far from it's pricing, but has to settle for 512GB. So, if 8Gen3 is what you are looking for, be ready to pay more and get that one. Else, 8Gen2 is not a very huge upgrade from 8+Gen1.

What is that for an awful sound in the videos? It is like from 15 years old phones or when you lower the quality on Youtube to 144p. I hate, that Xiaomi uses very bad microphones for ages! There are some exceptions, like mine poco F3 or xiaomi's flagships. This is a dealbreaker for me. Even when the sampling rate is 320kbps it sounds like in a spaceship. I think it has to do with the noise-cancelling combo and software. Never had these issues on Samsung phones from my first Galaxy S3 till last S9. Tried A53, A54 no issues.

Game would load gpu, modem, speaker, touch screen, storage, ram more than this test. They should start using burnout benchmark to test throttling.

Honestly, I'm impressed that a Chinese got both the performance and the rear camera so well...
Still, being Chinese, they let selfie cam & ultrawide be so-so.
Still, 80% performance achievable on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 after a 1 hour peak load is nothing short of 'mighty impressive', specially on a chinese brand.
I assume the common phone owner might never require this much, except when hard-gaming.

reyz, 25 May 2024This has always my first stop for phone reviews and news, a... moreQuite unfair.
1 - the pace at which new phones are going out does not leave a lot of room for fantasy and creativity.
2 - the market itself, all those phones are very close and similar to each other, with very few characteristics on which they can stand out. Maybe the in-depth "software stack" analysis and review is where it's at, now.
3 - I personally like that each review is relatable to the precedent, it makes for easier comparisons. And the page about verdict and alternatives is often a well put summary.
I'm more depressed about the state of the market, I mean except China and South Korea, who else is producing phones/tablet nowadays, competitively ?
No, Apple is no better. Asus is Taiwan. Sony, Japan, but not on the affordable side. Even the struggling Nokia(FIN) and Blackberry(CAN) have factories in Asia.
There it is, a battle we have long lost or never properly fought.

I have poco f3, it's great phone. Recently it got hyper os update and there is a green dot in the top right corner that I hate.
I see on the pictures here F6 has it also, it's a deal breaker for me.
In games it's not a dot sometimes, but a whole green square, so I basically cannot see the points I get, they're covered by it.
It's a notification that cannot be opt out, it's telling me that google has access to the location all the time. I'm perfectly aware of that, and I want to let google to have access to the location. I don't want to have the dot all the time.
Next phone is definitely going to be other brand.
Xiaomi has to address this issue with the green dot, or I think it will loose many customers only because of the dot. It lost me, definitely.

The reviews nowadays are so similar to one another that it's like they do 1 review and copy paste for a new phone just changing specs. I distinctly remember reading same old phrases in more than a couple different "reviews".
And they don't even bother to test modems, wifi/mobile reception, signal strength etc. on a phone review. Which is the primary function of a smartphone. They literally have GSM in their name, but they just talk about everything else except networks.

When doing the video capture please can you pan around and not just shoot straight? This is because android phones often stutter when panning as around so this would be a better true test

bardacol, 24 May 2024The new separate ios-like quick settings is just trash. Why... moreOn the setting you can choose and use classic android pull down notification, if you don't like it. Like it's super fast charging it's automatically OFF, you need to switch it ON manually if you want superfast charging active when charging.
