Years of software updates when the hardware is bad and local support is non-existent in most countries....

The recipe for irrelevance.

It really makes no sense to me how such review gave it a 4.1

Anonymous, 30 May 202460% throttling after 10 minutes?! That's really poor. ... moreProbably because for everyday usage you dont get feel that drop, as small reminder: people who buy those phones dont play heavy games or do stress test everyday.

I have pixel 7a, Its just cute medium size phone for everyday tasks. And when you just use it for watching movies, browse internet, use camera you will never notice any performance drop, not even feel that its getting hot.
But when you start playing games... you getting performance of 2015 mediatek after 5min :]

CamoGeko-XDA, 30 May 2024How did this get a score of 4.1?? Totally worth like 3.5... moreCommon, that's harse. It's an upper midranger after all. Sure it's not the best compact phone if compare with the likes of the Xiaomi 14 and Samsung s24 but the Xiaomi 14 launched at 1,000 euro versus 549 euro for this and the Samsung s24 launched at over 900 euro. Look at the list of pros. Great display with both manual brightness and auto brightness that is better than most flagships here, great speakers, great cameras for this launch price (probably the best at this launch price), IP67 rating and a compact body and very good software support. The weaknesses are clearly performance and bezels. For people that don't game though and just use their phones to browse websites and social media apps the performance should be ok. Certainly not for everyone but it will suit some consumer's needs just fine. Phones are not all about performance for everyone. If you want a performance based phone, that sactificies in other areas (usually cameras), there are way more options. If you want a small compacy phone that isn't a flagship there are not as many options.

I do wonder why companies who uses bigger bezels avoid using teardrop notch for the selfie camera.

                        "dual pixel PDAF"
Actually, there doesn't seem to be any evidence that it has dual pixel autofocus as far as I know.
It seems that Google uses the term Octa PD = Octa Photodiode for Quad Bayer with Dual Pixel autofocus (Quad x Dual = Octa), whereas they likely seem to use the term "Quad PD" for Quad Bayer without Dual Pixel autofocus (Quad x 1 = Quad).
The terms are quite misleading because for example Omnivision uses the abbreviation QPD for Quad Phase Detection (also known as Quad Pixel autofocus).

Decent performance? Not only is the performance bad for a mid ranger, it also throttles even though it's not even getting high scores.

MiguelBain, 30 May 2024Korean exynos Tensor Chip best 😂😂Hilarious 🙄

Buy the 8 if you really want a pixel, you can get it for the 8a price and it has better specs. End of story.

I think the 18W charging and huge bezels are a joke. However, one can only praise Google for consistently releasing phones with the best camera performance on the market, the fastest updates, and the choice of a compact or large model. There three things the majority of OEMs don't provide.

I don't understand what Google is doing with this, it's a lower-end model compared to the base non-A model, but it costs just as much?

The bezels and low charging speeds are a deal-killer tho, 18W wired/7.5W wireless on a new device in 2024 is criminal.
