To sum up this review: Just wait until a Snapdragon-powered Google Pixel emerges or shop Xiaomi/OnePlus.

    Why do the reviews don't c9nsid6the fact that Pixel heavily dependend on the cloud for managing heavy tasks, specially AI and Photo processing and without internet connection, the phone is handicaped ? So in reality the subpar processor limitations are being covered elsewhere

      Google returns with Qualcomm and stop the nonsense

        Here in Germany Mediamarkt/Saturn have a "trade in sale" where they give you 150€ plus what your phone is worth (by their calculations) when you get the 8a (100€ when the 8).
        Still think its a 100€ short to be considered.

        Also GSM Arena - this is not a flagship, dont know why you say it is and compare it with other Flagships.
        This should be compared with example Poco F6 and the sorts and should lose heavily on all counts except camera and software support

          In my opinion it makes no sense to compare 8a with s24, xiaomi 14 and iPhone 15. With trade in deals, its price drops easily below 400.
          Still, it's not a perfect device for sure, but it should be compared to other mid-range devices, not the top ones

            I don't know why Google is doing that, but they seem to use a worse 2x zoom demosaicing algorithm for the 8a in comparison with the 8. It would be interesting to see a comparison. Theoretically, the 8a should outperform the 8 at 2x in good light conditions, but according to one reviewer, it's the opposite.

                Long story short, just get the normal pixel 8 if you want a pixel in general.

                    So pixel 8 is 4.3 stars and the 8a is 4.1 stars? Would have thought it would be slightly wider.

                      60% throttling after 10 minutes?! That's really poor. Not sure how GSM reviews this so highly at this price point.

                              Seriously gsmarena? It has higher res screen, larger battery, periscope, 512GB option. Many stuff justify 8 pro more expensive than 8. Thete is no need to handcap cam functions

                                Well, the throttling test provides yet another reason why it would be worthwhile to spend a bit more and get a Pixel 8. Although throttle tests subject the phone to extreme situations which rarely happens in real life, it does provide an useful indicator of the thermal management of a phone and what it is capable of in extreme situations.

                                Pixel 8a throttles significantly and its throttled performance (both CPU and GPU) goes below that of Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. Pixel 8 throttles a bit better and its performance stays above 7G3 (even if by a small amount).

                                  18w charging?? that was the standard for 2015-2018... thankfully we got brands like huawei who made fast charging mainstream and forced everyone to make faster charging. otherwise we would still be stuck at "industry standard" of apple and samsung at 25w

                                    It's 18W

                                      Vanilla Pixel 8 is easily worth the difference just because those bezels that Google is using it so that people will spend more. Terrible design that Samsung and Google are using as a selling strategy.
