Anyways the Poco lacks :
1TB storage,
16GB Ram,
IP68,
a periscope or a Telephoto in the first place,
an useable Ultra wide,
no OIS on front (front cam does not interest me personally),
USB 3.1,
Display Port,
Wireless charging
Reverse wireless charging.
Neither does it have a battery life that is close to the edge 50U even though it's battery is larger.

The Main cam is 140% larger on the Moto.

I'm not buying a phone simply for it's CPU.

Does it have always on display? Of course I mean real AOD, not the 10-second version.

Just over £800 in the UK for this beast. That's a great price for a flagship phone.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2024"8 Gen" includes multiple chips now. This one is ... moreWe have the habit of comparing two chips in terms of differences in peak performances, because most benchmarks provide us only that information, but that is not the correct way to look at it, especially for high-end chips.

Let's compare 8G3 vs 8G2. While 8G3 has 30-35% higher peak performance when compared to 8G2, it also consumes 30-35% more power at peak performance. And the peak power consumption for both the processors is well above the heat dissipation capacity of modern smartphones.

A more relevant metric would be to see the performance increases at the same power consumption and 8G3 performs yields around 15-20% more performance at the same power (in 2-6 watt range). In other words, if you put a 8G3 in place of a 8G2, the sustained peak performance would be only 15-20% higher. Of course, the performance gap is still considerable, but not as huge as what it seems when you just look at the peak performance.

And if you want a compact camera for that price, you end up with an tiny 1/2.3 Sensor.

Larger camera menas it's not something you always want to carry around.

Pampam666, 07 Jun 2024Ehh, it is flagship level. The difference between this chip... more"8 Gen" includes multiple chips now. This one is roughly the speed of the Gen 2 which is not bad, but not even close to the Gen 3 or the Gen 4 launching relatively soon. For that price, it's disappointing that they went with the lower end chip, especially because they can't even cool that one properly

I prefer to use half the asked price to buy the F6, and the remaining to buy a dedicated powerful camera that will last for several decades. Any/every phone you buy now, will start to deteriorate rapidly after 2 years, no matter how careful you are with them. Phones weren't designed to last longer.

If your phone last longer than 2 years, it's because you're not using them fully, or having several phones like I do, and cycle through them on regular basis, this approach will prolong the lifespan of the phones, but not forever!

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2024One of the ugliest phones released recently....Every phone looks the same anyway, like iphones with that stove camera island are more pretty.

The difference between this chip and a proper 8 gen chip is so small that unless you play a heavy game like Genshin Impact or use emulation, you won't notice. "Flagship level" doesn't mean only the best of the best.

This phone feels expensive because of the 8s Gen 3 but this is the 16GB/1TB variant..

throttling test is worse compared to Poco F6, the others (camera, battery, speakers etc) perform well in the review. I can say this is a nice flagship from Motorola.

The only part whe... moreYeah... the CPU throttle performance was a bit surprising, especially given the fact that 8sG3 utilises newer architecture and a more advanced and power efficient process (N4P) when compared to 8G2 (N4).

Apart from the back cover, I am guessing the slightly reduced dimensions compared to Edge 40 Pro might also have compromised the heat dissipation capacity somewhat.

I have an Edge 50 Ultra, and recently received a 1 May security update.

Its a fast SOC no doubt, that Snapdragon 8s, but not really flagship grade, as GSMarena calls it in their review. Also 3 os updates and quarterly security updates are not flagship worthy either..

Damn the speakers are nice, they're better to my ears than the S24 Ultra in terms of FR, the distortion in the Motorola sounds like distortion and the S24 Ultra's one is just like any other phone, a pumping/compressed sound. Idk which one I prefer but I like the FR of motorola, really good stuff.

The battery is nice and charging is good too. The display's brightness is something I didn't expect. Motorola's FHD+ screen is brighter than Sony's "new" FHD screen. Yikes.

The software is so aesthetically pleasing, I really like that. How are the update speeds though?

Camera is great actually. Did NOT expect that. The processing is so mature, amazing job from Motorola. It's as good as a Samsung if not better, that's great. No overprocessing, that leads to these relatively "small" sensors look/seem big. This phone's camera is on par with the S24 Ultra to me, minus the zoom range, if not better. The processing is so pleasing.

If they put a 8 gen 3/had far better thermals or lowered the price by 100 to 200 euros it'd have been an easy contender for best phone alongside the Oneplus 12. Extremely balanced phones that don't cost "too much". Very great showing from Motorola, I scoffed at the price/specs at first but the results are surprising. Easily as good as a Pixel 8 Pro in terms of value for the most part, updates nowadays don't matter as much as back in the day when each update fundamentally changed everything or something like in the Jellybean, etc. days. Very impressive phone but with some price cuts it'd be one of the greats of the year.

I'd be curious to know what temperatures the battery reaches while it's fast charging
