Anonymous, 07 Jun 2024Its a fast SOC no doubt, that Snapdragon 8s, but not really... moreEhh, it is flagship level. The difference between this chip and a proper 8 gen chip is so small that unless you play a heavy game like Genshin Impact or use emulation, you won't notice. "Flagship level" doesn't mean only the best of the best.

This phone feels expensive because of the 8s Gen 3 but this is the 16GB/1TB variant..
throttling test is worse compared to Poco F6, the others (camera, battery, speakers etc) perform well in the review. I can say this is a nice flagship from Motorola.

Apart from the back cover, I am guessing the slightly reduced dimensions compared to Edge 40 Pro might also have compromised the heat dissipation capacity somewhat.

Its a fast SOC no doubt, that Snapdragon 8s, but not really flagship grade, as GSMarena calls it in their review. Also 3 os updates and quarterly security updates are not flagship worthy either..

Damn the speakers are nice, they're better to my ears than the S24 Ultra in terms of FR, the distortion in the Motorola sounds like distortion and the S24 Ultra's one is just like any other phone, a pumping/compressed sound. Idk which one I prefer but I like the FR of motorola, really good stuff.
The battery is nice and charging is good too. The display's brightness is something I didn't expect. Motorola's FHD+ screen is brighter than Sony's "new" FHD screen. Yikes.
The software is so aesthetically pleasing, I really like that. How are the update speeds though?
Camera is great actually. Did NOT expect that. The processing is so mature, amazing job from Motorola. It's as good as a Samsung if not better, that's great. No overprocessing, that leads to these relatively "small" sensors look/seem big. This phone's camera is on par with the S24 Ultra to me, minus the zoom range, if not better. The processing is so pleasing.
If they put a 8 gen 3/had far better thermals or lowered the price by 100 to 200 euros it'd have been an easy contender for best phone alongside the Oneplus 12. Extremely balanced phones that don't cost "too much". Very great showing from Motorola, I scoffed at the price/specs at first but the results are surprising. Easily as good as a Pixel 8 Pro in terms of value for the most part, updates nowadays don't matter as much as back in the day when each update fundamentally changed everything or something like in the Jellybean, etc. days. Very impressive phone but with some price cuts it'd be one of the greats of the year.

I'd be curious to know what temperatures the battery reaches while it's fast charging

Dear GSMARENA! Try to shot some photos with night mode in daylight. You'll be surprised.

So glad that Motorola has finally improved their camera, i just wish it was more aggressively priced or had sales after few months of launch which would make it a compelling buy.

For the rest it's the same or slightly more powerful. What I don't understand is how this model supposed to be more power efficient throttles when the Edge 40 Pro rarely throttles. I guess it's due to the back cover materials.

999 for what effectively is an upper midrange chip, one worse than last year's 8 Gen 2, it's hard to justify no matter what other features it has.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2024How to fix this phone - korean or japanese oled - all... moreP‐OLED panels are made by LG, a Korean company. Using top notch camera hardware is a must for top of the line flagship like the 50 Ultra, but whether Motorola's software can fully utilise those hardware is another story.

So 8s Gen 3 throttles in this thing, while normally Motorola phones rarely throttle (Edge 40 Pro was very solid)
Quarterly update are a disgrace
