Nokia 5320 review: Teensmart

08 August 2008
XpressMusic is back on Symbian turf. Last time we checked the musical talent was playing second fiddle to smartphone skill but maybe it's time for the tables to turn. Nokia have ditched the swivel and are playing it rather low key on the 5320 exterior. Fair enough, less express in XpressMusic but no complaints elsewhere: FP2, HSDPA. Well geared up in terms of connectivity and running on the latest Symbian...

Maybe the audio quality of this phone is not as good, but the music player has innovative features specially designed for a music phone, i.e. say2play. I think the say2play feature makes it good enough to be label as a music phone, although non-music phones may also have the feature later on, but hey, this is one of the first of its kind, right? Furthermore, it is not like every other music phone comes with better audio quality.

Besides, this phone, although being a music phone, also has the features of smartphones, which makes it distinct from other phones. You may argue that this is a XpressMusic phone, so the smartphone features do not matter. Well, that may be only for you. I believe many others would appreciate these features, e.g. young working adults etc. And do you see SE Walkman phones having this many of smartphone features? This is how Nokia make this phone special and different from other phones.

So I think it doesn't make sense for anyone to compare the phone that way. They serve different audience. If you don't like it because certain other phones have some particular features better, then fine, go for the other phones. This phone has certain other features better too and there are some other people who are more interested in these features than the features you are interested in.

      128MB RAM? ARE YOU 100% SURE WITH THAT? o__0 it better be 128MB RAM not 64MB. talking about a music player & gaming consoles can make this device a RAM-eating monster! -__-;
man, i'm so getting this if the performance is same good as my 6120 Classic!

well duh!! GSM*arena you guys wouldn't like it cause its a phone for teens and its price and features are great for teenagers like me who live in 3rd world countries like in P*akistan where every other day someone pulls a g*un to your face and says give me your cell or i blow your head off, i'm happy nokia are thinking about people like us cause all i want is Music in the bus before school a decent Camera and just to look good, N73 is a great phone but if you have it here your life is actually in danger, not all of us have the luxury of freedom in our own country...Peace, later

I love the Audio Message editor. Back in the days of the 6230i I had to record the clip and then send it. Since the 6233 I use the Audio Message feature a lot. It is much faster than typing an SMS and much cheaper than making a voice call. You guys at GSM Arena need to userstand that the Audio Message is a very handy feature for saving time and money.

"though obviously there are better phones out there offered by other manufacturers with the same price as this phone."

Which phones are the same price and better?

There are no other smartphones that have launched at this price at all. And I can't think of any similar-priced music phones with equal sound quality either.

This is a bargain for what you're getting, 250 euros for a just-released smartphone with an audio chip for music quality.

sorry, not interested, I rather choose Sony Ericsson W980 or W902

design is ok, it's not that good though(it somehow looks cheap).
good features for a mid-class music phone
it's a nice effort from nokia.
though obviously there are better phones out there offered by other manufacturers with the same price as this phone.

Based on the specs and this review of the phone, in addition to my own hands-on experience with the phone, I can say that this phone is a heavy contender on the low-mid range of music-centric mobile phones, symbian on board, often related to the phone being on the high-end, or High-mid, so is definitely not the case with this, nor with Nokia recently, GPS is being shipped in on a number of models, WLAN, HSDPA, follow suit, Symbian as well.

I say Nokia is on the verge of a revolution, with rumors around 5800 Xpress Music, suggesting a full touch screen. And 8 or 6 megapixel shooters, massive internal memory, dual processors of mobiles, 4G and Wi-Max. With all that in mind, this phone makes perfect sense, not designed to be the flashiest, sturdy is key with this one, for the younger segment of customers, ...

all of us here I believe agree, that this phone you can easily buy for your kid, since it's not all that flashy, and wouldnt make you feel as overly indulging your kid to buy it for him/her, yet features enough to keep him interested in it.

a sturdy, highly durable phone from nokia, a candy bar shaped, highly ressistant to wear and tear. A decent performer on audio quality and features set. The XpressMusic, has become more diverse, a year ago, it has been 3250, 5200 and 5300, now its 5310, 5610, 5320, 5220, 5710 rumored and 5800 rumored. I say they have gone far in terms of quality and appeal, and I suspect more to come.

gk, 08 Aug 2008i dont get why you would put no wi-fi as a main disadvantag... moreI also don't get it that they put a good loudspeaker in + side, while we found not so great audio qlty in - side. (Why even not using bAd/poor word. I550w not a music phone even bter).

well i would say disappointed according to the review as i expect a really a hug music oriented phone ,but all in all it is a good pretty decent effort from Nokia but should have been more espcallised.
