Viv, 22 Aug 2024I can tell that a lot of people on here are young. Anywho, ... moreMost users who are checking this site for specs and news actually probably know their devices quite well and are looking for a good product, plain and simple. It is unfortunate trying to project an emotion or position on life to respond to people wanting quality lol. Such emotion such advice lol. You may have misunderstood the purpose of what a flagship device even is. This is a product hoping proper will buy it out their patent will buy it without understanding how inefficient a purchase it would be. It's predatory marketing.

Viv, 22 Aug 2024I can tell that a lot of people on here are young. Anywho, ... more"Google has said that they didn't care about benchmarks with this phone"
If they wanted to shove a midrange SoC into people's mouths then they should've priced it accordingly. 1200 USD is a bit too much for a phone that can't even match SD 8g2 in CPU performance, I'm afraid.
It's not just about benchmarks, but more so about not scamming their customers and loyal fans - Let's think for a moment, if Google never cared about benchmarks, why are they trying so foolishly hard to hide the numbers from reviewers by blocking them?

"Unfortunately, we are not able to provide you with benchmark scores at this time as the benchmark apps we use were reported as "incompatible" on the Play Store and sideloading them got us results which were way to low (lower than Pixel 8 Pro, for instance) to be considered as representative."
LMFAO. It's hilarious how far Google is going in a desperate attempt to prevent reviewers from exposing that they are selling phones with a midrange SoC as high-end flagships. Why Google decided to stick with Exynos rather than Mediatek for their latest Tensor chip is just beyond me.
Also, I'm pretty sure it's specific to this review unit, but it seems that the lens is decentred badly - The bottom left corner is considerably softer than the rest of the frame, yet it becomes super detailed when the camera misses focus and blurs out the entire image (See the second 50MP sample).
I don't understand how this phone deserves 4.4/10 when its only real highlight is the very bright display. Many but not all of the AI features, including the "new" 8K video upscaling, are still done on the cloud, so technically they are not even specific to this generation of Pixel to begin with. This year the competition is fiercer than ever and Google shouldn't be able to get away with this.

Horrible image quality!
Images have both a very strong NR and sharpness applied, that obliterates details and give a very artificial look. Google had one of the best image algorithms on the market in former times, now it's simply bad IMO!

"oh we don't have benchmarks" Really GSMA? You could still comment about performance and how it feels subjectively. This feels like a cop-out

The only thing exciting about Pixel 9 series is the fact that Pixel 8 gets price cuts while still having the same amount of update support.
At least in SG, Pixel 8 at 256GB can now be found at 939 SGD, straight from a Google authorised retailer. And the 8a, can even be found at 624 SGD for 128GB from that same retailer, which is far more reasonable than the 799 SGD price tag.
Pixel 8 Pro also goes for 1004 SGD for 128GB, but I struggle to see much reason to go for it instead of Pixel 8 (other than the larger display and telephoto, of course).

On a different note, I do wonder why everybody is just copying Apple and no one is being punished for such laziness. Perhaps because most consumers don't care

I wish GSM had a separate test that checked it out, I feel like people want to know more about battery drain from cellular data while watching a video/browsing web for example than talk time. Maybe it's just me ig.

Viv, 22 Aug 2024I can tell that a lot of people on here are young. Anywho, ... morewhat's wrong with criticism? If anything criticism is the key driver of improvement in any field. If everyone had the idea like you that "oh just don't use if if you don't like it" then no business would've flourished. Businesses always think about how to make the most amount of money with the least amount of money spent and to get more customers. If the majority of customers aren't into a product, then the product ain't all that. And if you think the Pixel sells in huge quantities, show me some sales figures compared to other phones.

It's not hard to see the Pixel has a better colour and detail rendition than the Galaxy. The latter possesses too many white highlights and excessive oversharpening. The iPhone also exhibits excessive sharpening, but I'm surprised to see the colour science on par with the Pixel while having some reduction in saturation. If I rank the trio's camera performance, it'd be "Pixel > iPhone > Samsung".

Viv, 22 Aug 2024I can tell that a lot of people on here are young. Anywho, ... moreYou can still do intensive mobile gaming with Pixel. It's just that Tensor is not primarily built for such a thing. I'd still go to Qualcomm if I wanted to do intensive mobile gaming and console emulation. But if I want to see a chipset's on-device AI computing power in action, I'd still look at Pixel.

The design really bothers me, especially that camera bump. It’s not an attractive phone whatsoever. I miss the old non Google Pixels back in the day made by other brands.
