They could throw the hardware in there to improve the higher-resolution photos, but without the storage to support it, it won't pan out well. phones are not supposed to replace every device in your life. It's a phone first and foremost. If you want to take professional photos and videos, get a professional-grade camera.

I'm disappointed that the Xiaomi 14 wasn't included in the comparisons. Apart from screen brightness, the 14 has superior performance to the Pixel. I've recently upgraded to the 14 from Poco F3, and I'm so impressed with the speed, camera quality and amazing battery life. Prices for the 14 have come down greatly since launch, and I feel it now very competitive. If you're interested in photography, you shouldn't dismiss the lenses, flexibility and quality of the Leica system on the 14. The Pixel is far more restricted in it's versatility.

that seems like too many sacrifices (no AF for selfies, older ultrawide, less battery life) for $100 of savings. Then again, it might make sense for €200 left in your pocket 🤨

This pathetic Pixel 9 is on par with Snapdragon 8 gen 2!
That's midrange now. And btw. you know that 46 percent in 2023 using their phone to play games besides so many other tasks like video editing and photo editing.
Even without gaming my phone needs to have more power than my desktop for many years now. On smartphones people expect anything real-time. It's no problem on my home pc to wait 10 seconds for applying a complicated photo effect or to trim a video.
Underway it is unthinkable.
But anyway, this device is outdated at arrival. If you don't need any perfomance their are much, much better phones for the buck on the market than this thing.

Outdated tech on arrival. Great. Give 7 years of updates as much as you want. Battery will die long before, and technically, well it's up to replacement at date of buying.

Why spend $800+ when you can buy a perfectly good Moto G running Android 14 for $200? And the only difference is the occasional split second lag when switching between apps and camera quality that is more than adequate. Silly.

Sadly, the old clean pixel is no more and now the series is bloated AI probably to made it easier for US agencies to screen your phone.
