BillyOcean, 04 Sep 2024I don't believe youIt's normal. I'm using Redmi Note 4 daily with latest Android 14 since it launched. Runs smooth enough for web browsing and WhatsApp.

Motorola UPDATE POLICY?? Anyone here knows for how long Edge 50 and Edge 50 Neo will get updates? Motorola Europe tells nohing about it, neither Motorola USA. Motorola Finland interestingly had in its 50 NEO introduction "5 years of updates" but yesterday that part was missing!? Some claim Edge 50 (costs 100€ more than NEO) that it will only get 2 OS+3 yrs security patches and cheaper NEO gets 5 years of both, which sounds crazy. Anyone here with real facts? Any info from Motorola?

You fail to believe people can use tech parts without upgrading or that the battery failed? Why would I be desperate for phone upgrades when at best I do light gaming? Or truly, how dare I research phones and look for the best chipset in my budget because it'll live longer? Are you this hollow inside?

Folks, the Gorilla Glass 3 is actually not that bad. I have replaced screens twice on my old tablet (Google Nexus 7 2013) that are also GG3 protected.
Now the glass on each of the replaced screens worked just fine for four years, give or take. It is not as easily scratched BUT is more prone to shatter than cutting edge Gorilla glasses so there's that.
I'd say this Neo guy here ticks most boxes for an average user.
However if you want a 3.5" headphone jack and memory card support in addition to the LTPO screen, IP68 protection and wireless charging — Sharp or Sony will be happy to help you.
But the price tag will be way over $1000 :)

You're firmly outside of the average person category and in the enthusiast/techie category. The majority of users here are the same. The majority of people here either give an opinion about a phone they like but can't buy or they give their opinion about phones they hate.

You don't understand how simple an average person's mind is. You haven't talked with many people or you don't understand herd mindset that much so let me explain. Most people like to do things that most people do, for example when buying a phone what do people think of first? They think of what brands to choose and they either choose Apple or Samsung as their first choice since they have the majority of sales. Xiaomi has been a strong contender in the budget/midrange section since the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Slightly more knowledgeable people care about Oneplus or Google at best, but nothing much outside of these.

An average person is going to buy an iPhone or a Samsung for not only the fact that others use it but because of the perceived value, you might deny you do it and i'll agree that you don't but for most people this is a power play, a sign of worth. That's why most people buy the most expensive iPhones and Galaxy phones the most. the rest sell less. People either mostly like Samsung and hate Apple or like Apple and hate Samsung.

For an example of this look at the numerous youtube videos on Apple and Samsung phones. The main comparison is between them and not let's say Vivo or Oppo. Oneplus comes up from time to time due to their global reach but that's it. Youtubers cater to the masses, by reviewing phones from the top 2 brands like that they get more views. See how many views an Apple or Samsung phone review gets and how many a Vivo phone review gets.

Another example can be seen in the gsmarena "hits" section and the "favorite" section, see how many people research a Vivo, Oppo or Oneplus phone compared to Samsung/Apple.

When an average person is looking for a midranger they look for something that someone close to them has recommended, they look at the design or ask the salesperson at the shop. I've spent some time around people to know what their spending habits are and I've concluded all this based on all the people around me and the ones I've seen online. A relative got the iPhone 15 Plus instead of a 15 Pro/Pro Max just because they didn't like how the triple cameras looked. They don't care about 60 hz even.

I'm not denying your desire to want a flat screen, I'm saying an average person doesn't really care about it unless they're biased towards curved screens as being more premium (which most people still do think).
