Samsung Galaxy S24 FE review

No such thing as a bad phone, but a phone can be bad for the price. This one is a bit high in price at launch but it could become a very good option in certain markets when the price drops. Samsung as usual retains quite a lot of noise in photos compared to nearly all its Chinese competitors. However the detail is very good in lowlight. Always a trade off between noise and detail. Samsung nearly always allows some noise but does pretty well for detail. However, for me there is a bit too much noise. On the positive side the video quality is really good and better than quite a lot of phones even at this price point. A solid phone but not particularly good value at launch

I haven't seen significantly better performance in the phones by Samsung at this price. It's been similar to this every years. So genuine question, which device with you go for if you are looking for good sustained performance?

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2024I've been playing about with the S24FE and I'm qu... moreI would agree with this assessment of the S24 FE. It's a cut-down S24+ with some notable cuts but enough of the flagship formula to be easy to recommend to the right buyer as long as the price separation from the S24+ is there. (Right now, as you say, it isn't - on the SIM-free market. But on contract it is, as ID Mobile have a £15/mo + £229 upfront deal for a two-year 10GB-data contract on the 128GB model with another £50 for the 256GB, and I'd more than happily recommend the latter to the non-enthusiast who just wants to get a phone that'll be just there for them for several years without worrying about it running out of update support.)
I won't be getting it, but that's at least in part because of the optical fingerprint sensor - as someone who is sensitive to light and uses his phone a lot in the dark, the upgrade to ultrasonic is one I'm really excited about when I do move on from this S20 FE. This phone has its place in the market, and the more price separation it gets from the S24+, the more clear that place is.

"What's more surprising, however, is that you can also buy a 256GB S24+ for about the same amount € 790"
Even better, in my country Spain you can buy it for €750 so, who's buying the FE man? c'mon, just because it's fresh out now?...
I bet in 2 months, xmas, this FE will be around €600 for sure or even less.

Samsung seems to have lost their original idea of the FE series being cheaper than the regular counterpart. The S24FE is priced too close to the regular S24 to be attractive. Hopefully the price drops soon.

VicsanIdiot, 11 Oct 2024pretty wild that the sustained is worse than the base s24.......Insane, even. I was defending this chip for potentially offering superior sustained performance, but this is just bad.

I hate this phone just because the bezels are BAD. Not only not uniform which sucks, but big too. It looks like a cheap budget phone. Also having stability that bad with a chip that already lowered clocks is just embarassing. Sorry Samsung but this one is not it. I was one of the people defending the Exynos 2400e as it should have brought great sustained performance, but clearly that is not the case, so it is just a worse Exynos 2400..

There are a few phones from Samsung that i recommend people to buy depending on the budget....
A35 or A55, s23/s23+, or ofc S23 ultra.
And that's it.
