Nokia E52 review: E as in Exceptional

11 August 2009
Eseries seem to have been around forever: grown-up, confident and reliable. It’s a small but solid lineup that’s gone a long way from a fairly late start. Perhaps they’ve got a point: the business Finns are not running against the clock to...

It's working good for me. I guess you guys should check where the product was made, especially if it's an asian-exported-duplicate-version of the product.

Please think twice before buying this phone or any Nokia phones. The date on the main menu was always a day behind, phone switched off by itself and didn't auto-on like the common auto off/on problem other nokia phones have, last but not least, strong heat from the battery when I'm not using it and with all apps were closed. All these shouldn't have happened if Nokia has done their QC before launching this product.

I brought my phone to Nokia care centre for servicing, was told to leave the phone with them for about 3-5 working days as it's more than just software updates. Upon collection, the service officer told me they couldn't replace a new battery for me as there's no problem with it. In fact, they didn't even update my software.

The condition of my E52 has turned worse after servicing. Besides the strong heat from the battery for nearly everyday, the date no longer remains a day behind but no updates until I on/off it. My phone would lost its network without anything done to it or when I started to access internet. People who called me when the phone is in no network mode would see on their screen that I've rejected their calls. This reflects very bad of me when my clients call me but I'm not even aware of the missed calls, not to mention to call them back. Obviously Nokia technicians couldn't solve my problems but to worsen them.

I've sent my feedback to Nokia but their reply to me was Nokia maintains the most stringent QC, confidently provide one of the reliable products in the industry.

Could someone please help me with a problem? I can't decide what to buy, Nokia E71 or Nokia E52? Nokia E71 is nice, qwerty keyboard, nice designd but no so smart as E52. And I heard E71 has problems with battery life. Please let me now what you think. Thank you.

E52 is a real let down - I mage a bunch of engineers who rely on the Mail for exchnage client while on the road. We all had the E51 and those of us who have moved to the E52 regret it - BIG TIME. The phone hangs, tells callers I am unavailable, MFE is rubish on this phone - NOKIA - bring back the E51!!!

The piece I have as a corporate phone is hanging in random cases.
It is completely unreliable. Sometimes it even does not restart when I take the battery off. It has to be taken for an hour to have the phone boot.
            I am really dissatisfied.

Beware the e52 is not really a business phone it's flakey build and software see to that. A real pity because nokia almost had the right idea.

The mkt needs a candy bar business phone to rival iphone and blackberry a 2010 business nokia. What is going on with Nokia design team they really have lost the plot.

It's missing a standard nokia charging connection !! You can only charge it via micro usb!
For the little extra cost a business phone should realy have the standard nokia charging connection.

The E52 is terrible not upto usual Nokia build quality don't buy it if you expect a solid well built phone. I had mine for 2 days and couldn't stand the poor build and rubber buttons. Why Nokia didn't just make it in the same materials as the e51 and e71 I can't understand nokia are loosing sales to blackberry and this phone will only drive more of us to blackberry for business phones. 1 out of 10 .!

glen_b, 26 Nov 2009Recently my beloved Nokia 6267 got stolen hier in Zürich (s... moreHi,

My phone may be a different version, I have no idea how to check it...

                          1. It highlights/underscores all the numbers and www/email in the SMSs, so you can call them, add to contacts (there is something called "Automatic find On/Off", i guess this is the function you need.

When I'm taking pictures, I'm not necessary sending them to someone, I may just want to keep them for myself.

I can delete all the SMSs in my Inbox, by selecting Options->Mark/Unmark->Mark All, then Delete->Ok

About the other mentioned problems, I didn't check all of them, the only thing I don't like in the phone so far is the cheap build quality, I've been using E50 for 3 years, and this one is just too plastic compared to the E50.

So far I didn't had any issues with freezing/dropping calls, it's Finland made, bought in Bulgaria.

P.S. Something very important, is there a way to use the phone as a flashlight? :)

I am a nokia guy...been through the whole gamut from 6210 to E90. The E52 is a big disappointment. Firstly, i had to battle with the charging system which was eventually settled after battling with my local nokia care centre ( they finally changed the machine allegedly), Now i get frustrated trying to get to a number on my address book...i get the annoying message !!!! building cache...

enough is enough ..nokia wake up .just look at your competitors in this segment - Iphone , HTC ect

I lost my Nokia E51, a phone which I absolutely loved. I just ordered the Nokia E52.

I was a fan of the subtle styling and the compact nature of the earlier phone. Hopefully the Nokia E52 lives up to its predecessor. Thank you for the rview.

Bought it about one month ago in Switzerland (E52-1 made in Finland) and it works like a charm, except some minor software issues.
