Samsung I8000 Omnia II review: A surprising experience

28 August 2009
Samsung's top tier of Omnia devices is populated by some seriously heavy-hitters - first the 720p video recording Omnia HD and now the Omnia II - with its best-in-the-business display, WM 6.5...

I bought it just believing that I could have it updated to winmo 6.5, since its written in its box and it was written at Microsoft's website that the update would be released until the end of November.
They just have erased that from the website and now it's written that the date is not yet available. I wrote several times to Samsung's website and they just do not give any answer, once this Omnia is not yet released in the USA.
I am sad to have believed on them. Should have bought HTC, that do what they promise.

I got this phone. It is awesome. I have it with wm 6.5 and its fast. I dont know wht the prob is wt lag. There is none. The eye candy is great{video player, touch player, phot viewer} and browsing is awesome. It's better than on my ipod touch{ latest one} and it doesnt get hot. Its also the best looking phone aroung with exception of few{ not iphone or anything from htc} I enjoy GPS and apps. the 65k thing is not a problem. I think I have 16m on wm6.5, but i have not seen a 65k phone to compare with. Screen is awesome. IM never bored with it and gsmarena review was great. This is the best phone ever.

The new Omnia 18000 has a couple of problemms that are very easy to fix for the samsung techs.... but will they do it??

The audio alarm for an outgoing text message can't be turned off, or just reduced to a vibrate. This is VERY annoying to people that use texts while others are trying to rest. All other samsungs have the option to turn this off, why remove that option with the new phone???

There is still NO voice recognition for the bluetooth/handsfree app. A great many other mobiles are using WinMo6.1 or the new 6.5 due out soon for samsung, all those other phones have voice dialling that works; except Nokias, they used to have a good system but have 'fixed' it. Now its broke.

These are very easy things Samsung can fix to assist us, the customers. If everyone contacts samsung to address these and other anomalies, we will all get somewhere.
The samsung techs DON'T read this site, unfortunately, so we have to call them ... and do it persistantly.

                  Hi,

Just biught this phone 2 days ago and im very disapointed with it.
i had an htc hero and a diamond 2 and decided to change to this one cause i thought that it would be better.
                  WRONG!

lagggggggg....u have to press hard on the screen , touchwiz2 very laggy, net not always connect....

the best one was Hero but unfortunately dont have videocall, bluetooth, radio, etc....
                  but the interface is awsome!!!!!
diamond 2 its ok, but dont like wm6.1 and the screen is quite small.

i'll deliver the omnia 2 to the shop and maybe wait for the htc hd 2.

its a shame....thought i that it would be "the phone".!

The Omnia II also gets much better with WM6.5, which is faster than 6.1 and adds kinetic scrolling and other useful features for finger use.

To solve de low level on incoming rings:
Use a regedit and searh for:
                                HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Attenuation
Create a dword named 5 with value 1
Then go to HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring AttenuationCategory and changes de value to 5
                                Restart and test it.

I have used WinMo since MPx200 that cost almost 500 USD. Since then, I have also tried Symbian (several times) but still go back to WinMo and never look back.

Personally, I have never like Samsung proprietary OS and it sucks hard. Glad that they brought in Windows and that solves the problem. It is the OS that runs on the phone far more important than the looks.

Omnia II to me is a masterpiece which such as affordable price. By far the best WinMo combined with the best hardware out there. Looks fantastic too. Symbian is popular because they have an ongoing contract with the #1 mobile phone seller - Nokia. If Nokia signs with WinMo, you should see WinMo taking over.

Period. Young fanboys, keep your cool and stick with what you want, WinMo and Omnia II have plenty of supporters - intelligent too.

                                    Cheers.
