HI, 09 Dec 2009when u cant surf net wif BB plan, and other internet serivc... moreAre we talking superiority of BB Plan or BB Handset?
The specific PLAN that I mentioned doesnt allow surfing(BlackBerry Personal Internet Service). This plan is for those who was to use it just for mailing, and dont need surfing on the phone.
The normal Blackberry Internet Service does allow surfing. Its a choice, which one you want.
My point was you cant just say Nokia Messaging is Free. It does require data fees.
So Nokia Messaging + Data fees = BlackBerry Personal Internet Service at same cost.
Many working people don't surf net during the day, via the phone. And then after working hours most people have connections at home or at office, during the working hours. (I have said many not all, and I have said via phone and during the day).
By the way, I am a dissatisfied E72 customer.

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2009So by your logic, an inferior product finds is in a "higher... moreAre you calling Bold 9700 inferior to E72??
My dear friend I had E61i. During the prolonged wait for E72, i bought E63 as a stop-gap arrangement. I bought E72 the day it was available in India.
But it has many issues, which Nokia will have to fix over a period of time, and I am not satisfied at all.
I have seen and felt Bold 9700 and it is SUPERIOR.
With regards to the pricing, BB has done a smart thing. It is psychological.

Just bought the 9700 here in India last week and it is absolutely bonkers! I thought my E71 and Curve 8900 were perfect but this is just on another level! I did try the E72 at a Nokia store down the street but the looks just put me off. It seriously looks like a fat laggard compared to the sexy piano black & chrome of the 9700.
About subscribing to the BIS plan, I suppose if you're buying a 600 dollar phone, you can very well afford to shell out another 8 to 10 dollars every month for the plan. Heck a basic internet plan costs at least 5 every month, so what's another 5 bucks? If you can't even afford that, I suggest you look at entry level phones and possibly see a financial counselor to start saving cash.

I bought the 9700 instead of the Nokia for 1 main reason. I get 3g service on my Blackberry with T-Mobile and with the Nokia being an unlocked cell phone without a US Carrier it will only do edge, a much slower web experience.

Overall pretty decent review from someone who isn't used to a Blackberry device, I believe a lot of his comments are justified and they make sense. However, the Blackberry is one of those devices where if people you know are using it, it really makes that whole experience so much better. I don't think there's anything equal on the market to Blackberry Messenger, I've tried several programs on the iPhone and even used Google Talk on other devices but it's just not the same considering not many of my contacts are using it. My BBM list is packed with contacts and it's really integrated itself as an "essential" to how I go about communicating with people.
So obviously, he's not going to include these into his review considering BBM has been out way longer than this. I'm just trying to reach out to those deciding on which smartphone to purchase and have a lot of people they know using a Blackberry - it's this reason alone that separates Blackberries from other devices.

I just dont get it how these Blackberries are so popular. Nokia's phones are much more versatile (yes i have used both) and still cheaper than these overhyped crappies.

optional, 09 Dec 2009messaging? are you kidding? without a blackberry service pl... moreyes, yes you do. but i don't know about you, but as someone who invests 600$+ each year in smartphone hardware i couldn't care less about the 8$ i pay each month to get access not only to a fast and reliable push e-mail solution (drains FAR less battery life than nokia's messanging thingy which reduces the E71/2's stellar battery life to a mere 1/2 days), but also a push notification solution which pushes facebook messages into my sms inbox (i like it that way - highly customizeable inboxes, another plus for BB's) and tweets into my UT, and all that without using any extra battery life. this is true messaging and connectivity pal.

Totally agree with the main thrust of this review. If Blackberry are serious about wanting to appeal to a wider consumer audience they should stop limiting as this review points out the appeal of their products to only those prepared to sign up to their service package. They should also not make the dangerous assumption that business users are not wanting an up to date and efficient and appealing user interface. A good product but these points should be noted.

The old bold had 128MB, but the Bold 2 has double the RAM.

Obviously almost nobody that has commented here so far owns a BlackBerry. BlackBerry is the best smartphone in the World at the moment. And the only people that knows this for sure are BlackBerry owners. The reasons for why BlackBerry is the best phone in the world are too numerous to mention here. I would suggest non BlackBerry owners go to BlackBerry forums or go to Crackberry.com.

ummmhhh... yeah... so what's with all the praising of the phone and then in the end bashing it because of it's higher price tag?
i owned an E71 for 1+ year and i decided to go with a 9700 now instead of a E72, ok, the 9700 has a premium price tag, but it's got a better trackpad, better keyboard, better screen, snappier OS and similar connectivity issues (reviewer agrees btw), so how can it not kick the E72's ass?
who gives a damn about multimedia features and the camera, seriously? is GSMarena sponsored by nokia? i understand that the E72 might have a better "bang for your buck" value, but i think thats is what should be mentioned after you mention that the 9700 eats the E71, E72 and all their bastard children for lunch when it comes to productivity and messaging.

Well i have decided on the Nokia E72 after i was at The Phone House today and looked at them both. I took advice from my friend who works there. He said something very interesting. He said that if you would put a Blackberry logo on the E72 instead of Nokia it would cost 800 dollars, but because Nokia doesn't charge you more then they give you it's only 400 dollars. That made me think that Blackberry only sells its name, in truth the specsheet of the 9700 equals that of the former E71.
