Google Nexus One review: Firstborn

26 February 2010
All droids are equal but some droids are more equal than others. Google it. You’ll get the Nexus One. There are around 50 smartphones and tablets running Android today. That’s right, out of all the offspring they fathered with the Open Handset Alliance...

On page 7 you claim the following:

        Plenty of connectivity
Connectivity is certainly an area where the Google Nexus One excels. For starters you get quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE for worldwide roaming and dual-band (900/2100 MHz) 3G with HSPA. The HSDPA is quoted at 10.2 Mbps and the HSUPA can reach up to 5.76 Mbps.

On the specs oage you claim 7.2 download and 2 MBPS for upload speeds. Your speeds are off some how..

I turn off wifi whenever it's not in use. I should say that it has the best browser by far, mozilla firefox, even though it does not support multi-touch gestures, it's fast, can run flash videos, support multi tabs, and it has weave extension so that u can synchronize all the bookmarks, tabs with pc,laptops, etc. In addition to that it is truly a multitasking prowess.

Already had numerous battery and cell drop out issues. Touch screen is so unresponsive compared to what their mates at Apples produces. Snapdragon is powerful, however I feel the software doesn't take full advantage of this power. Really not to impressed, screen quality is poor except for in the main screen and text, images and video are all over saturated, making it difficult to look at. This could have been so much better, rather disappointed.

The Nexus One is the best phone I've ever owned. I was a very loyal Nokia customer, but the quality of this phone has convinced me to switch. The Android 2.1 OS is spectacular, and very fast and responsive on this hardware. Best of all, its not an iPhone! Steve "Hitler" Jobs cant tell you what software you can install. You aren't shackled to iTunes. The Nexus One is the best smartphone on the market.

                      Legend - 320 x 480

                      Nexus - 480 x 800

Did you see the different now? Why Legend only 800Mhz can run smoothness than Nexus

I was the proud owner of the Nokia N900. Got it as replace for the phone I had lost (Vodafone). Really wanted the HTC HD2, but the option was given. I read a lot about the N900 before agreeing to take. Heard a lot of good things about. Plus I'm a tactile person and the hardware keyboard would be great. Different desktop on the Nokia is good and the build quality is ‘okay’, but neither as good as people make it out to be. Plus, I felt the specs are a little outdated. Same processor and RAM (you can't count virtual RAM! it like having a 'virtual' girlfriend) seen in the iPhone 3g(s) and considering the iPhone is one year older, the specs are old. Being a bit of a geek, I've used a lot of different phone (except the iPhone, because everyone seems has one, plus I don't think its attractive. not as sexy as people make it out to be). Sold the N900 on eBay for 415 quid :) When saw the Nexus One and read up on the specs, I felt the "desire" (get it) to get one. Paid 345 pounds, including delivery (got lucky, didn’t pay import tax). I was an Android virgin before I got this. I’ve been using it for a month now and I think it’s great. The Noise cancellation works like a gem. The touch response is super smooth and screen quality is amazing (contrast 100000:1 and 16 million colours). Voice search works brilliantly. Flash support is now on the phone and works beautifully. Got a free app to watch divx, avi and even iPhone format videos. You can tailor this phone to suite you. At first didn’t like the virtual keyboard (VK), because I was accustomed to the hardware keys (HK). I got use it. It’s a matter of breaking through my comfort zone. Now I can type much faster on the VK than the HK. This is a great phone and SO is brilliant!!! Recommend anyone to try it the once. I like to think I’ve a based my opinion experience and facts, rather than the crap others have said. Not much different between the Nexus One and Desire, it’s just a matter personal taste.

Why is there no mention on the benefits of the 2nd mic for noise cancellation and the voice to text feature in practically all apps. One of the specific Google additions for the N1? I'm still torn between this and the Desire and as pointless as some people may see it it could be a deal breaker. I spend alot of time driving for work and the ability to compose and send a text message just by talking to the phone would be brilliant. Does anyone know if this is possible?

This, and the HTC variants are nice but I still don't see any reason to swap these for my iphone.
