Very good article guys, but I'm a little surprised you didn't mention Sony Ericsson K750i in the cameraphone part as this was in my view what really started off the camera phenomenon.

There is NO company can beat them. :D They have full HD camera phones, they have waterproof phones. :) Panasonic has a 13.2 MP camera phone(with full HD). :D

We know that the Japanese phones are the most advanced on Earth, but don't forget those phones are ONLY for Asia, and especially 4 Japan. They produce the most advanced camera phones NOT Nokia or Samsung, they produce the most advanced screens, they produce waterproof phones, they have waterproof and fingerprint sensor phones as well(Fujitsu F-01A is an example if I know right) :) Japan is Japan, they made the world's first camera phone too. I hope one day they will "attack" other countries as well.

A really nice article by you guys....hats off to you for this superb article....It's really vry great effort by gsmarena, I was thinking a while ago why no body is talking about or writing about the topic on evolution of mobile phones, I even talk to my frnds on this topic a lot , and here you guys really wrote this great article which can make any body nostalgic.....this is the reason I prefer gsmarena over any other sites which reviews mobiles...My friends call me mobile encyclopedia for my knowledge on mobile phones but I think all credit goes to Gsm arena, bcoz since I started visiting gsmarena five years back my knowledge about mobile phones began to increase, thanks gsmarena for giving us so much knowledge abt. mobile phones for past decade and always keeping us updated abt. latest technologies,innovations,development and release of new mobile phones....hope u will continue to keep us filled with the latest knowledge in field of mobile phones......hope in next article on evolution you will also review mobile phones on some more features like games, multimedia,Internet,wifi,3g,flash player,applications,GPRS,maps, etc.....I want detailed or brief overview which brought revolution by incorporating above features first in their phones......I also hope u will give us some more knowledge abt. Some feature device and some features which we can expect to find in feature phones..........and ya one more thing I think it's time gsmarena shud really think about it's look by revamping it's home page a little since it's your tenth anniversary.....congratulations to Gsmarena on it's tenth birthday....just praying that gsmarena lives on for milleniums so that I can always keep on guiding future generations on evolution of mobile phones......keep up guys...

Thinness and weight isn't that important to me. I find that with most phones out there today, they are already thin enough and light enough that making them even lighter or thinner won't make them necessarily better in my mind. I guess if you can make an existing phone thinner and lighter, you can instead use the same size and weight and just add better functionality, such as more features or longer battery life instead. I have a threshold of comfort and once I reach that, anything over and above it isn't that important to me.

What about Sony Ericsson in camera department
K750i is the first real camera phone with 2 megapixels
and satio with great 12 megapixels

the article was great...just great . reminds me about my first handphone that is nokia n-gage(great phone) . currently using 5800XM which is also a great phone from nokia(except the camera) . btw , thanks for posting this article , gsmarena . :)

No they weren't. Games were already available on other phones to download. Flash games were on sale. Nokia merely wanted a bite of the console market and failed with the original N-Gage.
Apple can be credited for changing the way we use mobile phones, thanks to their use of touchscreen (with multitouch), their app store which was the first custome built store for an OS.
The release of the 1st iphone forced Nokia to develop the N95 into a more media orientated device (bigger screen and 8gb of memory). And the N95 was a monster!!! THATS how much of a game changer the iphone was.

- Games were revolutionized by the NGage devices of Nokia..long before the Iphone showed up and then apple just integrated it with the touch screen to make them better.
- Apps have been there for Symbian way before apple and you did not need a computer, you can download and install form the phone itself.

oh i suddenly miss my nokia 3315 when i read this article. that was my 2nd phone... philips savvy was my first, that phone has a horn (an antenna hehe). this article is nice. the first phone that ive been craving about is nokia 3250, second is nokia 5700, the twist and turn phone. 3rd is iphone 3gs and now samsung galaxy s and iphone 4. now, the mobile industry is full of competition. mobile company nowadays are making phone just because of money. but some company make phone from the heart, i mean they value they're product.

Infact, for some time, I was always wondering about my 1st mobile pnone - simens (i dont even remember model) which was so big and square in cross section. slowly moving to a Trium, Nokia 8310 (my most favourite phone ever), Nokia 3200 (my 1st camera phone), n73, SE P1 (my 1st touch screen), BB 8530.
Alos handeled with so many friend's devices - Nokia 3310, 6600, Razor, communicator, ...........
Played with devices of all sizes, features, capabilities. and yey the requirements and expectations have steadely grown. How an sms was something so new. we had competitions on who can type an sms fastest, without looking at device. today with QWERTY, there is no limit to speed. touch has changed the was we see the features.
Thanks again for taking me thrugh the journey.....
I would request you, if you could compile a list of top 10 phones by sales or popularity of each manufacturer, or top 3 in each of main cattegories.

torrentblock, 15 Jul 2010they look amazing don't they? presumably they don't do eng... moreAll the Chinese SHARP handsets are English and unlocked. But not all of them have 3G if that bothers you. The Taiwanese T930 and T923 are both unlocked and 3G capable, with more to come hopefully.
