Anonymous, 24 Oct 2010Why would anyone buy such a cheap phone? It's software look... moreYou mistaken their word, nokia told like N8 is last symbian N-series phone not the last phone. If you see outside world then you easily know there are some more symbian phone arrives like E7, etc..
And nokia also told they support N8 with future upgrades and this indirectly means that Symbian^4 can be available for all Symbian^3 phones.

Why would anyone buy such a cheap phone? It's software looks ancient and from reports is dead as its not user in the next nokia phone.
Some people will buy any old rubbish and try and kid themselves its great by trying to elevate its camera function.
Sad.

I never ever understand why people are fighting on net for phones and mainly for OS. Everybody knows that each and every phone are different and also work differently. You should choose which feature you are going to use in a phone and find your best mate.
In my opinion Nokia N8 is best and same way Iphone(s) and other high end androids too are best. Each phone have their weakness and strong points.
Cheers..

I didn't see any...in all photos the Samsung is superior to Nokia N8, well on low light no, but all the other Samsung is way superior, is in front of everyone, the Samsung has more detail, and i'm a Nokia customer for about 10 years....

Tim, 23 Oct 2010Clint I haven't yet pulled the trigger on an N8, I'm only g... moreIndeed a lot of reviews have been rather harsh on Symbian^3 yet most go on to say it is a vast improvement on previous versions. Now I currently use a previous version and I think it is fine so major improvements on that must mean great.
These same reviews have said that the N8 is by far the best phone ever released by Nokia. Again this is saying a lot as they have released many exceptional phones.
My personal view is that the iPhone has ruined it for all of us. The masses are now dictating that this is the way a phone should function, due in part too the great Apple marketing machine, and the reviewers are following suit. All of a sudden it is all about user interface and simplicity... two things that really are not high on my agenda.
Don't pull that trigger just yet ;)

Clint, 23 Oct 2010Tim, I was in full agreement with you until we got to this ... moreClint I haven't yet pulled the trigger on an N8, I'm only going what I've read in dozens of reviews as the main drawback. Time will tell if it is obsolete or if they actually update the OS and improve it, though recent headlines suggest they might. The quirks and bugs seem pretty well documented but perhaps they are mostly the type that don't bother most users, only those who have a grudge and must find some reason to hate the phone.

Tim, 22 Oct 2010If you want a slick user interface and tons of apps, then o... moreTim, I was in full agreement with you until we got to this part :
"you basically have to pick from an obsolete and buggy OS"
Nokia has made it clear that Symbian^3 is not obsolete and they will now be making upgrades to Symbian^3 and not releasing a Symbian^4. In fact going forward they will just refer to Symbian. Far from obsolete.
And I also beg to differ on the buggy part. The way Symbian does things may not appeal to some but I do not see it as buggy. In my experience it has always done what I require of it. Obviously you could possibly find one or two issues but this is usually true on any software on any device.
I see you did correct those comments a little by adding :
"At least if you pick the obsolete and buggy OS, there's hope that it may be updated and improved."
We need to change that from "might" to "will" though.

The photo review was clearly fixed, or someone leaked the results. There is NO WAY that the camera on this is better than a dedicated Digi cam.
It is good though, and a worthy successor to the N82. More of the same please Nokia.
Such a shame about Symbian though. It needs retiring, or a complete overhaul from the first line of code upwards.

Got my Nokia N8 a week ago. Love it! I mean, really love IT!! Finally a phone with top camera AND real flash that creates great photos indoors and in dark settings. Connected it to my TV yesterday, and it worked flawlessly showing off photos and videos to my friends. This phone is meant for sharing moments (and connecting people). Its a big recommondation from me!
PS: Yes, the photos are the best in class, but the videos this phone creates are also breathtaking. Heres a film project using Nokia N8 only: http://vimeo.com/dragonflylove
And heres a comparison btw Nokia N8 and IPhone 4 (look how fast Nokia N8 is acting in the changing light conditions at the end, your going to love that):
