Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type review: Slim and sharp

28 October 2010
Nokia is trying really hard to build back some lost trust. The new Symbian^3 smartphones are just one weapon in their armory. The other is the touch-enabled lineup of feature phones called Touch and Type. S40 has never before been into...

      hey there GSMarena,
I read your review for this fone, and i think that the whole Touch and Type thing is excellent. BUT, I want to get the C3 Touch and type instead. Could you guy's make a review of it.
Coz I need to know if the C3 supports XviD movies, and if the LED flash really ebenfits it. And all of that other junk.
      Thx

Hi guys, I was thinking on buying this phone, but a have a big deal: the BATTERY life.
How long would it last the battery just using the phone to talk? Because I think I would use Wi-fi just ocasionally. I would want it to know in hours of conversation bacause I use to talk a lot with my gilfirend, at least 1 - 1.5 hours a day.
Excepting on the battery point I think the rest of the qualities fit perfectly with what I want.
            thank You very much¡¡¡

Personally I don't like it, and when I first saw it, I thought it made no sense. But my girlfriend tried it out at the Nokia store, and she loved it! She'll buy this phone, so clearly Nokia is listening to it's customers; there are different tastes and needs, everyone can't love everything this company provides us with.

an ideal phone for your basic call an messaging purposes plus if you need the odd once in a while web surfing ,or linking with the communities it has the wifi/browser ,5mp camera with foto edit,music/fm etc

                  pros:
                  simple elegant/lightweight design
                  slim
                  touch n type
                  dedicated music /message keys
screen lock buttons on the side
                  wifi
                  homescreen settings for quick acess

                  cons:
                  battery life
                  no memory card/usb cable
                  screen may get scratched

i have been using for 2 weeks so far no hanging episodes ,only disappointed with battery life
if you need lot of apps, gps, gaming.high end browsing experiences, its better to go for the smart phones.
if you need something on the lower end with a touch of all features, this model has it in right proportions

I ordered the phone today for 200$ too, and that's what I call a "budget phone". For a high midrange phone it's quite interesting.
I can't wait to have it in my hands! :)

I was considering purchasing this phone. I like the touch-and-type concept because lets face it, one-handed texting on a touch screen handset can be quite a chore. Specially if you're in a hurry. A few months ago, this model was being marketed as a "budget phone" which made it even more attractive to me as a back-up mobile.

Lo and behold, today (Nov. 9, 2010) it's being sold here in the Philippines close to USD$200. I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like a "budget phone" to me. Unless Nokia Philippines does something about the pricing, I doubt this phone will sell well here.

Touchscreen and QWERTY phones are all the rage here. Something priced this much with an "old fashioned" keypad will be the last thing on consumers' minds this coming Holiday Season. Prepare for an Epic Fail Nokia.

I would like to use Ovi Maps / Nokia Maps on the X3-02 even if it doesn't have GPS. Does anyone know if Maps can be installed or if there will be a S40 Touch And Type version at all?

After having read several reviews it seems that this phone doesn't come with any sort of maps pre-installed, and as the GSMarena review revealed, Google Maps (at least in it's current, non-Touch & Type-optimized version) doesn't work with this device.

To comment on the nokia bashers: Nokia is doing what they should. Making decent phones for good value.

This phone has what I need; It has a good touchscreen, it has a numeric keypad and it's light. I don't want a chuncky touchscreen phone, loaded with stuff I am not going to use. This phone is a your basic workstation and not some SLI QuadCore powerhouse.

I played with this phone for about 10-15 min. and it's a great phone. If you want more gadgets or better browsing, buy this phone and buy a V4 IpodTouch for your multimedia stuff. Because let's face it. It's still just a phone..

                                        A tip for UK buyers:

If you just want a handset (as opposed to a contract deal) - Fones4U have X3-02 in-store at £120 including £10 of credit on Orange SIMcard.

However, the device is not locked to Orange and is not branded - so you can use your existing SIM.

Better than paying £159 for a handset as advertised elsewhere...
