Nokia C7 review: Rise and shine

03 November 2010
The Nokia C7 has no intention of breaking the chain of command. It is just a slimmer, simpler and more affordable N8 and comes with more conservative styling. The well-balanced Cseries have received an accomplished leader. The specs sound cool...

It is a great phone except the battery. I use emails (office email - push mail), the battery doesnt last even for a day. My E72 is much better phone.
All other features are really cool.
Am i missing something, any tricks for the battery.

Recently purchased the C7, did originally want the X6 but the shop was sold out so offered me the C7 for the same price. Initially was delighted with the phone, however it keeps on restarting itself unexpectedly and for no apparent reason. Happens on average every 5 mins if I'm not using it, though if I am using the phone, it can happen every 30 secs, usually when I start to use an app, for instance the Ovi Store, Maps, or sometimes even just standard procedures such as entering a new contact or typing a message.

Googled the issue, and appears I am not the only person to experience this. Few people suggested it was the Symbian^3 technoledgy, can GSMArena comment on this?

Got this little fellah last week after my iPhone 3G drowned in a beer. This is very very nice phone. Yes, the camera cant handle closeup photos but otherwise this phone beats my older iPhone easily! And very slim and nice looking too.

i dont now why gsmarena accentuates to compare c7 with x10 in terms of camera quality and concludes that c7 is better?
I doubt x10 is not better than c7 camerawise.

Anonymous, 03 Nov 2010After reading full review i must admit nokia is smart.....t... moreFULL Focus (EDoF) and FIXED Focus are not the same. FULL Focus uses asymetrical complex lens systems coupled with 2 stage lens AND image processing. FULL Focus provides extended Depth of Field, resulting in the entire image being in focus from 50 cm to infinity. FULL Focus is a latest technology advancement because the polymeric lens manufacturing process is cutting edge and complex. Each lends is formed under extreme precision with different polymers for each element. Fixed focus is an older tech and basically a conventional lens group with no mechanical nor digital adjustment, used mostly on really cheap phones.

Some people prefer Auto Focus for MACRO/Close-in shots or pictures where only the subject is in focus. I use a BCR app weekly...so AF is a requirement on my phone camera. To date, I cannot find a confirmation that the C7 or C6-01 EDoF camera can do BCR scans.

However, for simplicity, consistency of good shots for the average user of a camera on a phone, and speed of shot...the EDoF technology is compelling. The EDoF also lends itself very well to excellent video capture. Most people do not take macro video.

From a design standpoint, EDoF allows for thinner profiles. In terms of manufacturing costs, the lens systems and additional processing make it rather expensive.

I'm curious if GSMarena went back and retested the C7's 50cm close in performance with the SHARPNESS turned to low, like it did with the Nov 5 correction within the article. If the lower sharpness setting has a positive impact on Noise Reduction, is this sufficient for BCR programs to interpret data? I have seen one video on Youtube demonstrating the C7 is capable of bar code reading using upcode, a free app. However, the barcode was rather large. What I really would like to know is if the FULL FOCUS technology can support business card scans and day to day 1D/2D bar code reads.

N8 and C7 share the very same 3.5 inch AMOLED with anti-reflective coating...however...they were too early in development to receive CBD.
