LG E900 Optimus 7 review: Lucky seven

09 November 2010
Windows Phone 7 is new territory for LG to conquer and the LG E900 Optimus 7 is their first pawn in the game. However “pawn” hardly describes the rich feature set of this player. LG has done its best to set the Optimus 7 apart...

Phone 7 looks good. But when I read all the Phone 7 specific limitations, I immediately thought; "My God, this is even worse than iOS"

...and that should say it all...

    Ok so.. .

    * No system-wide file manager
    agreed missing.. problem
    * No Bluetooth file transfers
    Just like the Iphone, it will come in the form of an app if people want it. No Issue
    * No USB mass storage mode
    Perhaps a missing feature if people are looking for this.. however Like bluetooth file transfer an app will come like they did on the earlier iphones..
    * Limited third-party apps availability
    That is changing every week, I also take offense with the idea that quantity equates better.. I don't need 700 tip calculators, or diet plan app.
    * No Flash or Silverlight support in the browser
    They aren't needed quite honestly.
    * Too dependent on Zune software for file management and syncing
    exactly like the iphone and itunes? this is really a con?
    * No video calls
    who cares?
    * New ringtones available only through the Marketplace
    con, however I would expect an app to pop up.
    * Music player lacks equalizer presets
    perhaps a con.
    * No multitasking
    enabled for first party functions, rarely necessary for others.
    * No copy/paste
    coming in the first update
    * No DivX/XviD video support (automatic transcoding provided by Zune software)
    an App will support it
    * No sign of free Bing maps Navigation so far
    Turn by turn bing maps and street view..
    * No internet tethering support
    not true
    * No handwriting recognition support
    who cares?
    * Twitter client does not integrate with phonebook
    interesting..

        I think the UI of Windows7 for mobile is uniqe, but in a bad ways.

        I wonder if microsoft will be a major player in mobile with this OS. 3 fail Os in the row? the old MS WinCE/WinMO, the Kin OS, now this???

        It seems to me that in the future samsung wave and MS will gone. so it come down to symbian, iphone, android, and BB new neutrino-based-OS.

            All of you get cheated, WP7 smooth is because the system and interface go back to text based.

            Think of running a Win98 in a Quad core 3.0 CPU, Im sure you will say its very fast and smooth...

              from that perspective, it is really working nice. I just wish Microsoft wouldn't have dropped the Mobile Device Center in favor of Zune SW. Synchronization and file transfer is now a real hassle ... ! :-(

                  Wouldn't Stereo Crosstalk change from headphones to headphones? when the they are attached that is? Do you guys use one pair of headphones or the stock ones included with each phone?

                        @the reviewer:
                        "No stereo speakers" as a con - really?

                        You made my day, brother! As if I would worry about stereo speakers in a tiny little 'smaller than my hand' device! That is what headsets are made for. Who would want to listen to stereo sound out of tiny pipsy speakers?

                        - - -

                        Throughout the years, I've noticed how GSMArena reviews shift to 'what is the entertainment value of the device' rather than focusing on core features, such as taking the device in your own hands, dial a number and see for yourself how it sounds. (Your graphical audio stat doesn't mean anything to the majority of people here and it also only reflects music playback, not voice clarity!).

                        Well,
                        I could write a book on how reviews always focus on the 'feature parts' rather than the core functions of a cell phone, yet, I have better things to do!

                            ULTRASMOOTH!! WOW :)

                            Phonemarket has two ultrasmooth OS and they are iOS and WP7

                            if i'm going to buy new phone i dont want to loose that smoothness what i have had like year and only option for me is WP7 and it's looking very good option!.

                            But i think i'm waiting the WP7 os update which is coming early 2011 then i decide if i'm going to try WP7 over iphone.

                              the awful limitation are apparent and the ui turns most people off as soon as they use it. Its like a file manager app with some colours added. wp7 has been on sale in my retail store for two weeks now and we haven't sold one yet,only one or two vague enquires which don't last long as soon as folks see the interface,not gonna last long this os id say

                                I don't like WP7 interface to much, especially home screen but i must give credit to it on how smooth the interface works. I have HTC Desire with android and it isn't that smooth. Don't get me wrong, android is much much better then WP7 but i like that smoothness on wp7. I hope when wp7 becomes more complex will not loose that smoothness.

                                        win 7 is going to be a terrible flop.it cannot satisfy an average user.on other hand symbian even allows you to use your pen drive with phone.it is the ultimate functional os.their will be no takers for win 7..if they do not improve
