Nokia E7 review: Open for business

02 March 2011
Business as usual for the Eseries is a cliché – thank you very much. But the kind that makes the world feel right. The Nokia E7 could’ve been just another Eseries phone. Oh well, that wasn’t meant to be. The latest is implicitly the greatest but, in the...

Man, nice review, but how can you compare this device to some Android crap? Do you have the notification light on the Android, Desire Z or any other?? Do you have multitasking on that? Is the Android device able to wake me up in the morning when it is off over the night?? I really do not get the point, why people criticize Symbian so much? It is more than obvious that Nokia is far more better than any stupid Android phone. My E7 is perfect and would not trade it for any other Android phone. I used to have one and had enough of that. It was SGS and became a true nightmare to me. Never ever! I stick with Nokia and Symbian.

androids have a massive securety issues. do you realy want them to see your Photos read your mail and know where you are at all times (kinda creepy realy) all androids can do it without you even knowing they might deny it but it is possible to do and i am not risking it. to all that want this phone go to nokia website read what it can do (wich is alot) nokia tells no lies in their advertisement they say it is good because it is and here is a nice trick that androids cant do connect ANY blutooth keybord and mouse to the phone and a t.v and you just built an awsome usefull bigscreen internet device good for work and play. this thing can do it ALL out of the box no need for boring hours trying to find an app on android market most android apps suck anyway small useless programs. and o yes

Wondering how long it'll be before it racks-up its first fatality!
              Picture this...
You're whizzing down the freeway at when u press the 'phone' button on the steering wheel of yr 'smart-car' (Toyota Prius) and instruct it to call yr wife - via a Bluetooth-paired connection to the (not-so-smart) E7 in yr pocket. All goes fine at first - radio is muted, console-display shows the 'Dialing..'screen & soon u hear yr wife's phone ringing thru the car speakers - but then the ring suddenly stops & the radio comes back on! You press the 'hangup' button, but the 'Dialing..'screen remains frozen.. - In desperation u press all the other wheel & console buttons - but nothing works! (for the first time in 2-years of use with many other phones) - U pull the E7 from yr pocket - Lights are on, but nobody's home! - It's showing 'Network Unavailable' - its unresponsive and u hear that familiar 'be-be-beep' tone coming from the speaker, but its being repeated, over&over&over again! Only thing to do is turn it off to release the death-grip it has on the car-computer! But that ultra-slick, ultra-heavy lozenge design pretty much guarantees you're not gonna be able to do that (even with no-hands on the wheel!) before you drop it under the seat! - ...and the Grim Reaper starts to chuckle...

p.s. A word of advice to anyone caught in the same situation:- Don't do what I nearly did... Rather save yourself years of suffering & regret ... just chuck it out the window!!

Josh1, 11 May 2011Hi guys! I would just like some valid advice! I am lo... moreHy Josh1. I am the proud owner of 4 nokia phones (E61i, E71, E90 and E7). I´m always having with me 2 of my phones - the nokia E7 and the nokia E90. I recommand you the nokia E90 (if the bulky form factor doesn´t matter for you). Don´t get mi wrong. The E7 is an awsome phone, but the nokia E90 is a perfect phone (for business). Yes, it has only a 400 mhz processor but the qwerty keybord is perfect and it has removable battery (and this is very important for me because you are never out of power). For me, a business phone without a removable battery is not a business phone (W.T.F, NOKIA ?!?!)

                  Hi guys!

I would just like some valid advice!

I am looking between getting either the Nokia E7 or Nokia E90. Obviously Nokia are recommending I get the E7.

Also bare in mind that I have a condition in my hands that causes shaking in my hands, thus I really like the E90 for its large keypad and screen and dislike the E7 for its touchscreen interface. Furthemore, it just isn't interesting to me.

                  Any comments?

                  I would appreciate it.

A business phone??! ...with poor battery capacity and super slow and buggy OS???! COME ON Nokia! Wake up! This aint a business phone. Its a kid's phone.

I used to own most of the E-Series up until now, but I have parted away from Nokia.

Not a good phone for my business use. Super slow and unreliable.

I hated iphone 4 but now i love it! Im sure Android is good too! Great business ranged phones.

People who think this is a business phone must be a slow business guy who have alot of patience whilst Nokia phone is busy trying to send emails off and accepting the occasional crashes, etc. :)) ...we aint got all day Nokia! When u press send button it means send electronically, and fast.

As for the phone itself being a "flagship"? Nokia must still be dreaming.
With this kind of super slow, super ancient OS, it surely cant be a Flagship model.
Instead I'd vote for 5800xpress music for being a flagship model if any, viewing from the perspective of this slow OS.

How disappointing Nokia has become... I feel sorry for the hard working design team who can design good products but Nokia refusing to upgrade their internal features. It's a Ferrari with crappy Daewoo engine inside.

I like nokia e7: RAM is sufficient for my daily use, processor speed is adequate since the phone does everything I need rapidly enough, software is functional and does what I need. So no complaints.

the problem here lies with hardware.
Inadequate amount of RAM, plus outdated CPU (600-ish ARM11).
The CPU itself been in Nokia phone since time N97, and n97 sucks big time due to software, but if the hardware is powerful enough it would offset the software lagginess.
Imagine if this phone RAN on ARM cortex A8 (or A9), would it do justice to Symbian3? Nobody knows since nobody puts Symbian3 on a device that had powerful processor.
Since my horrible experience with N97 i been keeping a distance between myself and Nokia product. And seeing the spec sheet i would do the same for so called 'latest' Nokia product. :p

Received my Nokia E7 2 days ago....what a nice looking phone BUT signal reception is very poor. My Nokia 5800 download data with 3G or 3.5G speeds while this phone struggle to stay connected with GPRS. Will take it back to the shop and I hope it is only a setting problem. Anybody else having this problem?

so...when did opinion count as fact in reviews?
"Symbian^3 is still behind Android and iOS usability standards"
in whose opinion? i find symbian^3 a lot more user friendly and functional than android and ios.
i find android needlessly complex in some functions it ios, come on...whats true multitasking?
yes, symbian^3 has an outdated look compared to the sleek, new interface on ios or android, but that does not make it less usable. and that "issue", if you find it an issue, will be mostly rectified with the anna pr2 update.
"Ovi store content is inferior to Android market and App Store"
                                    "inferior" in what way exactly?
yes, there is a lower total number of apps available...but the quality of the apps is just as high. you dont need to have over 100 apps that do the same thing when you can have 1-3.
if you are going to use such words when discribing a "main disadvantage" please specify exactly what makes it inferior.
"Fixed-focus on an 8 megapixel camera is just wrong"
your comment here is correct...stating that it has "fixed-focus" is wrong.
it is not a mechanical focus...it is software driven. but it still has auto focus.
