Nokia E7 review: Open for business

02 March 2011
Business as usual for the Eseries is a cliché – thank you very much. But the kind that makes the world feel right. The Nokia E7 could’ve been just another Eseries phone. Oh well, that wasn’t meant to be. The latest is implicitly the greatest but, in the...

Have you used both the Nokia N8 browser AND the iphone's browser for any length of time? Flash is absolutely pointless on a small screen unless you want access to Youtube (or other erronious Flash sites) and both devices have a Youtube App anyway. I have yet to hear one SINGLE valid reason why Flash is so important on anything smaller than a tablet.

I return to my iphone for browsing far too often. Granted, the N8 is better at other things, but for browsing it simply sucks.

    Safari wins every time."

So how exactly does it win, with even less features supported? Try being more specific. And no, I don't consider "clean interface with a whole 3 options" a win.

Thanks for the review GSM Arena! A long awaited one. And a great telephone. With this build quality, design and communication excellence Nokia E7 is to be only praised. I hope Nokia continue to hold on to quality and real-life features and produce more phones like E7.

CC, 03 Mar 2011Symbian OS Fixed Focus Camera No SD card No Battery repl... moreIt's so funny when people say things like "Nokia is going to die", like it's possible that the world largest phone manufacter can simply "die". First: Nokia doesn't live only with high-end smartphones, and losing market or not, Nokia still have the biggest market share (So have Symbian OS), but obviously, Nokia is losing its position, but your dreams to see Nokia dead is completely impossible I'm afraid.

The major thing I find about the Android browser is that it opens up more web pages that I want to go to than the Symbian browser or Opera. The problem I have with Opera is that when entering text to some web pages, Opera refreshes the page for some reason and I lose everything I typed in. It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough that I avoided any large amount of data entry on it.

CC, 03 Mar 2011Symbian OS Fixed Focus Camera No SD card No Battery repl... moreWe know symbian is old and outdated but nokia still did a good job on this particular phone

Symbian OS (we know its old but it still supports a variety of features)
Fixed Focus Camera - its 8mp which is still better than the 5mp cameras on most phones
No SD card - this phone connects to a usb drive. Even the iphone doesnt have a card slot so i dont see the problem
No Battery replacement - iPhone doesnt have a replacable battery, but i dont see ppl complaining abt that. If you want to remove the battery, unscrew the side panel and there u go.

For some reason I actually like this phone. It doesnt have an up to date user interface, but it does have a lot of functionality in it. Although most phones today have keyboards in them, I havent seen one that has come close to the one on this (Besides the E90)

The build quality looks really good on it and this if one of the few phones which still have video calling on it (I am one of the few people who actually use this feature)

I see people saying that no memory card slot is a disadvantage, but lets not forget that you can connect a usb stick to this phone which I find more practical than connecting a cable. WIth regards to the non removable battery, why are people complaining?? The iphone has a built in battery and that works absoloutly perfect.

Sure the software is not as pretty as android or iOS, but lets not forget that this phone is primarily for business.....not focused on multimedia. The camera may not have auto focus, but it is still an 8mp camera which takes better pics than the 5mp cameras on some of the phones. Many of you guys are also forgetting the free gps which other manufactures do not give you.

The browser may not be the best in its class, but it still supports flash. Its not like one cant install opera or any other browser.

Besides the ridiculous price on this phone, I actually think that nokia did a good job on this (......for a symbian phone)

Before anyone judges...... find a smartphone which packs all the features i.e. video calling, front camera, radio with rds, 8mp camera, a WELL DESIGNED keyboard, full usb support, doc editing, hdmi, 4inch CBD, free gps with voice guidance, pre-installed doc editor......Yes there arent many.

We all know symbian is old, not as smooth as other systems and lacks a good UI, but it still gets the job done. If only they droped the price

                      No Battery replacement

This phone is going to help Nokia further into it's grave. Nokia - you're not doing a very good job of connecting people, are you?

Nokia E7 is good but still it lacks many business feature which a business phone should have like battery, easy to handle, flexible, security, portable(its very large in size to be a business phone like Nokia E72, business phone don't require such 8 MP camera and not the least the cost is too high.... I think this is really not a good business phone like Nokia E72, BlackBerry Bold...

Well what do you expect DSLR's have much bigger sensors etc, please stop making stupid comparisons. Cell phone cameras are about convergence instead of having to carry a big camera around aswell. Something the N8 handles extremely well.

There are darn site more than me that hate wading through crap apps, catch yourself on.

Listen to the latest AAS podcast, Rafe Blanford has alot of industry contacts and this was information he received from them.

Phone cameras always sucks? I guess you own an iPhone or a Galaxy S to think like that and never tried to take a shot with a N8. GSMArena itself showed that N8 camera is even better than some high-end dedicated digicams. Say that phone camera sucks only because you probably own an iPhone is not a argument, off course you don't have too many ajustments on a camera phone, but I'm talking about picture quality.

NEXT !I own a Nokia C6-01 and I can tell that the "fixed-focus" is not bad as you might thing, actualy it's not true fixed-focus, it can focus perfectly on everything from 50 cm to infinite. If you don't know, most DSLR cameras also can not focus closer than 50 cm. The only bad thing about it is that I cannot do my Macro shots that I always did with my older phone.

AnonD-2896, 03 Mar 2011If battery fails, Nokia gives a 2 year warranty on all its ... more2 Years warranty? You still have to pay if the battery blows up after that. Why dont give people a goddamn choice to replace a battery by their own. Don't try to make it positive, kid. Having built-in battery is ALWAYS disadvantage.

At what user base are you comparing Symbian to to call itself "large"? Symbian user base is so minuscule camparing to Android and iOS. Only Nokia fanboy think there are a lot of them left.

It dare you to take the best shot out of your N8 and compare it to the shot from my 3-year-old Canon G11. I will say again, cell phone camera always sucks. If you want a good photo, buy a camera with a half price you pay for a phone.

See, it is just YOU but not others. And like I said, why should you use App store interface to find a good App when you can just google it very quickly? I won't take me longer than 5 minutes to find an awesome app.

Can you cite a source for me please? or you made that number up? Why should they put a limit how much people can put it the phone? If I buy a phone, I know how much data I wanna put in. I dont need the company to think for me and they should give me a freedom to choose the storage myself. Again, having an interal storage only is ALWAYS a disadvantage. Try to fool yourself that it's not is just pathetic and idiotic.
