HTC Desire S review: Droid cravings

18 April 2011
Powerful hardware, large high-res screen and the latest Android version in a single piece of solid metal – the recipe did wonders for the original Desire so no wonder HTC are in no mood to experiment with the sequel. Take the best and make it better pretty much sums up the game plan...

This handset will not support the new HTC sense 3.0 UI.

So even though its a new handset. its old Technology.

If anyones waiting for a new HTC handset wait for the HTC Sensation

"Unfortunately, we won't be able to properly judge the the HTC Desire S camera image quality as our unit has got a defective camera..."

Wait, the same thing happens with every other HTC that GSMArena reviews. What's going on with their cameras???

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2011I think the Galaxy 2 mini will only be for Russian market, ... morehi ,
I have two questions to ask
            1) Is this the reception problem with wifi - signal going to be major problem..
            2) Any idea when Galaxy s2 mini wil be released in india .So that i can decide whether to wait for it or go with desire s.

            Thanks

I bet the mkv videos that played without sound had DTS audio. Same happens in SGS wich has no DTS support.

3.7 inch is the best screen size, the 4.3 monsters coming this year are just plain too big... manufacturers have forgotten that a phone is something people keep in their pockets and hold in their hands, it'a not a f***ing tablet!

Hope I see more decent sized handsets like this, in the future.

                  "my max budget is 23k"

Gosh, well in that case, you can afford to buy at least 50 of 'em :)

                  (@ £400 each)

Desire S is a great Android phone. Highly recommended.

Well well seems to be a pretty decent smartphone . pricing holds the key as many dual-core powered phones should be out in the market soon ( couple of them are already up for grab) .

I have got Incredible S . have always been a htc fans with the Sense UI . but now i guess Incredible will be my last htc fone due to pathetic battery performance (Have used Wildfire , Desire and now Incredible) . charged in the morning to 100% , within 7 hours of use ( 15min net browing , 8-10 min of voice cal , 4-5 sms )battery was down to 18%. HORRIBLE . also i would like to mention about the camera which is average to say the least , few previous phone which i had with 5Mp cam performed way better than this HTC's 8MP . Thums down !

Waiting for SE NEO to replace my current crappy HTC phone . Cheers

so the Wifi death grip in normal landscape use is widely confirmed, that's unbelievable.

hmm, no trackpad... i find it enormously useful when editing text messages, website url etc. i find it a terrible flaw on touchscreen phones, as you may need to split two letters so precisely, with no margin for error. even if youre off by one letter, you cant scroll left or right!
i wish oh how i wish HTC would do a large internal memory and be done with sd cards. The desire I have is terrible for internal storage. i only lasted 3 months before i had to root and install a custom rom with a 8gb memory card and app2sd. now im still getting a "no internal memory" error due to the apps that cant be moved to sd. i am seriously considering losing the sense UI (the only thing keeping me with HTC) that i love and going samsung in the next 6 months.

the last thing is the sense aesthetics. I despise the grey opaque dock bar, and having a skin that changes its shape from curved to flat, or colour from grey to maroon, really doesnt cut it. you loose screen space, and its limited with the its options. HTC please revise this for the sense UI! a total revamp of aesthetics, keeping the same functionality!

                                    am i asking too much?

apart the HTC navigation (with software from tomtom and maps from route66) this dosn't have anything so special,, so it shouldn't costs more than 300€ on release!

I got feedback that battery life is way better than the old HTC phones.

Will upgrade to this from LG O1.

                                        Yey!
