Motorola XOOM review: The Big Bang

26 May 2011
Phones far and wide wanted to be the iPhone killer and you know what – tablets are no different. The iPad needs to get used to living with a bounty on its head. And always be ready for the likes of the Motorola XOOM. But the XOOM is no ordinary...

Xoom is very attractive. But no one buys it and everyone takes Galaxy Tab10.1 instead. It is because it lacks many features. There is no USB port(only micro-USB). Yet it costs high. When you buy a tablet please update it fully , download all the apps you like and then start using it. You will have a good experience-even in xoom! Look for ways to solve your problems than grumbling through internet. Buy an adapter for USB too. If you do all these things, you would love your Motorola xoom.

Seems quite laggy despite the 1GHz dual-core CPU

Screen is very reflective, hard to use outdoors - Fair

Quite a porker at 730 grams - Not going to notice it.. i use one

No kickstand – it cannot be stood up on a table without a dock - not that many tablets have a kickstand like the Ipad that still should not be a disadvantage as it is not part of the hardware

Non-replaceable battery- what .. whould i use my AA batterys for it then

Can’t charge off USB- yeah very powerful device .. even i wont stick it in my laptop if i had the chance to ( why charge a laptop with a laptop)

LTE-enabling update not out yet for the Verizon version- but it will be out so why is this there for

Still waiting for an update to enable microSD slot as well- refer to last point

No document editor pre-installed, not even a viewer - Andriod market

Really disappointed with the xoom. First iboiught the acer iconia, but the sdcard slot can only be managed with a file manager. it did have a great screen but ultimately video playback is crap. tetra is reallly not that good. had it replaced for a xoom which is almost 400 dollars more here in Australia but it was even worse. only advantage it had was 3G and 32gb storage. videos that played choppy on the Acer were more choppy on the xoom.No video player as well. I converted an mkv to mp4 it played ok but not as smooth as I expected. I have a gs2 now and it plays everything. Will stay away from tetra. Eventually, I got an iPad 2 with 64gb storage, and had to buy Avplayer hd. Plays everything like a charm even with subtitles. Plays even a 640mb mkv with subs really fine. No converting for my anime. Just sucks to have to sync it. Sorry for the long speech, just basically wanted to say any tablet with tetra won't be really good for movies. Since the iPad has good resale value, and it plays all my files and movies, I will be waiting for Samsung to release hopefully a version of the galaxy tab 10 with exynos. then goodbye iPad.

This mobile is Superb,,,,,Superb,,,The XOOM has a 10.1” screen of 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, Google’s latest Android OS (after the update rolls out in full), purpose made for tablet use, and a powerful Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core chipset with 1GB RAM. Barely a few lines into the spec sheet and we already like the sound of it.

bought it. Its awesome! latest updates improve on everything and bonus accessories are widely available now. Only querk is HD playback through an MKV file... but hey, im being picky. Thumbs up from me.

Feeling mixed experience about the tablet. It has everything i think but not the best out there. After reading the disadvantages list of Xoom here http://www.best7android.com/2011/06/motorola-xoom-tablet-review-advantages.html i can see that i expect a better screen like most of the android phones have now. Xoom also need an upgrade in GPU section too. But the price tag is fine.

I dont know why so much of hype made around this tablet, hi-fi hardware specs does not mean a high performance system. Use experience is most important OS of Xoom still buggy and leggy. Apple always concentrate on the user experience for that Apple gadget sacrifice lot of features, which obviously not most used function of the device, and add up great pleasure to user experience. If some one really want to create a iPhone or iPade killer pack all feature in your device that are ommited in Apple's device but with great user exprience. Till date only BB Playbook seems to be perfect competeter for iPad...now dont say that it lack a rich App store. when iPhone and iPad came it doesnt have already built app store with time it built other then that there nothing which go against playbook.
