Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 preview: First look

03 June 2011
By losing an inch of screen diagonal and reducing the weight to something you might actually be able to hold longer than 5 minutes, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 hopes to convert more people to the tablet cause. Those who found the 7” Galaxy Tab too limiting and the 10.1” slates too heavy to take anywhere other than your couch will certainly appreciate the effort...

Why does the appearence and interface Samsung need to look like iPhone or iPad, whether mobile phone or tab? Why? Why? why? and why? Copy cat! Why think of new idea? :(

The introduction page says "MISC:Divx/XVID" but on the preview of video player you say "With DivX and Xvid nowhere in sight you will have to either convert" ?????

This confuses us readers! Please clarify!

On the detail specification, micro sd was listed as supported, yet on the review itself there was no mention of micro sd slot. Please clarify.
                  Thanks!

I think I remember reading in a review that the Playbook's power requirements were such that while it was in use and plugged in, the battery would not (noticeably?) charge as it was not possible to supply sufficient power over USB to do both at the same time. So perhaps this is not an entirely unreasonable justification for going with a proprietary connector.

There are other solutions they could have implemented instead, of course, such as a dedicated power connector but that's another matter!

I want to buy this but the lack of codec support is a deal breaker. I have the SGS2 and it can play any file I throw at it including 1080p MKV! The phone is more capable than the tablet!

I fail to understand why all no-name Chinese makers can very well implement an USB port in their devices while Samsung is still "going apple" using proprietary port! What's the ideea of portability if you need to carry an additional adapter just to read a stick?
For me that's a no-sell point, I'd rather spend my money on a different solution without so many bells and whistles but carrying an ordinary USB instead!

seriously, no XVID/DIVX support? I'm seriously reconsidering buying this now. One of the reasons I stuck with Sammy is the codec support. This is sad.
