Nokia N9 hands-on: First look

22 June 2011
Today's smartphone scene is one of fierce competition and breakneck growth. Rarely though do announcements get any bigger than this. The Nokia N9 seemed forever stuck in rumorland, but never lost its grip on users' minds. The handset is rightfully enjoying as warm a reception...

Sorry but you're blind if you don't see that it's smoother and more responsive even with fully running apps in the background, not the stupid Android multitasking. For you my dear blind person, I suggest buying a Nokia 3310, it has buttons so you can feel.

          1. Samsung has never OFFICIALLY announced a tegra 2 smartphone.

          2. Even if there is a tegra SGSII on the way, its not un-Samsung to release a slightly downgraded smartphone. Just like how they released Galaxy SL with an inferior processor and GPU months after original Galaxy S.

Funny how Mobile-Review completely trashed the phone, while GSMArena praised it to no end...

Bearing in mind that this phone sports a DEAD OS and the latest management quality by Mr. Elop, I think I'll take their word for it instead of GSMArena, this time.

Nokia's hope for the future is in WP7. MeeGo is dead from the get-go. This phone is just another proof of how things are messed up inside Nokia...

The phone looks cool, but the UI sucks btw. Looks like a children's phone.

Okay, here is the thing.. I have calculated this from Damian Dinnings reply in the source link above.. He says that the pixel size is 1.4 micro meter as opposed to 1.75 micrometer of N8..
                      Here is the calculation:

                      N8: Pixels - 4000 X 3000
                      So sensor area = 4000 X 1.75 micro X 3000 X 1.75 micro
                      = 36.75 mm^2
From wikipedia you can see that this is just a bit less than 1/1.8".. So that is 1/1.83" as we know it..

                      Now, N9: Pixels - 3552 X 2448 (Full sensor size)
                      So sensor area = 3552 X 1.4 micro X 2448 X 1.4 micro
                      = 17 mm^2
From wikipedia, you can see that this is just less than 1/3".. So may be 1/3.02"

                      There you have it folks..

So the sensor is actually quite smaller than N8's.. But the advanced technology and f number of 2.2 should give it a nice boost.. But shouldn't be enough to beat N8 though..

Galaxy S II can come with either Exynos SoC or with NVidia Tegra 2:
                        http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/03/13/samsung-galaxy-sii-s2-exynos-4210-vs-tegra-2-which-version-will-be-better/

Nvidia Tegra 2 is a single channel controller:
                        http://www.latesttechsite.com/category/reviews/nvidia-tegra-2-17022011/

Not the best links, but I guess you can check from other sites also.

I would presume that they wouldn't use single channel on others and dual channel on others. It should also show a major difference in favor of Exynos when comparing two SGS IIs with different SoC.

Conclusion: SGS II uses single channel. Agreed?

Sails, 26 Jun 2011Ah, we are getting somewhere :) If you follow the reply ... moreI don't know what you're talking about the speed "clamping down". I have never seen lag/slowing down while running graphic intensive apps or while video recording for long duration.

All devices do have a temperature limits, that's right. But the question here is whether the limit is exceeded simply by running the phone at its full capacity (which i dont think is true). Anyways its not possible for either of us to prove or disprove this temperature thing.

Smartphones do get hot, just like ANY other electronic device, that's normal.

Galaxy SII has the Exynos 4210 SoC which supports the same LPDDR2 found in Opimus 2X/3D. In addition, exynos SoC also supports DDR2 and DDR3.

Because of the clearly superior UI design and paradigm which we already see. The UI is the thing I touch, and as long as it is fluid, I am fine. I never see, touch or smell the SoC, it is irrelevant. (except when it is your only differentiating factor, as it is in the android spec pissing contest)
