Nokia 701 preview: First look

06 September 2011
The Nokia 701 is the torch bearer in a generation shift for Symbian. Belle is a bold stylistic step forward and the Nokia 701 is the first in a trio of phones that will introduce it to the world. The Nokia R&D team left nothing to chance with this one - proven design...

I cannot get over the fact these devices have 17 hours of talk time and 3 days of music listening. I can get any phone I want, money is no object, but the 701 with those numbers is very appealing. Might need to get one.

Anonymous, 10 Sep 2011to enjoy a smooth and responsive maps you need a Ghz of cpu... moreYou don't know a thing of what you are saying. These phones that are capable of recording HD videos use the GPU to do so, not the CPU. Even a 1Ghz CPU is extremely underpowered to record and watch HD videos, let alone Full HD... Same goes for maps.
You really think that a simple 680Mhz CPU alone like on the N8 is the key to do HD videos? Even an old 2Ghz single-core desktop CPU may have trouble with this.
About the screen size, it's just nonsense. The phone simply need to have a comfortable size for you to operate (4.3" is not)... I already tried phones from very diferrent screen sizes, Xperia X8, Nokia E7, Galaxy Ace, Nokia C6-01, Galaxy S and I can guaruantee that they are all nice for every use you may have. They are simply phones. They just need to have good ergonomics (which a 4.3" screen don't provide) and great functionality. If you need a large screen you can buy a tablet.

I think Noki... moreto enjoy a smooth and responsive maps you need a Ghz of cpu, & of course to enjoy viewing it you need more inch of display. to record a 1080p hd videos you also need a Ghz of cpu & of course to enjoy viewing you need more inch of display. so yep in the end you need a hybrid tablet/laptop/phone device :p

                          A c7 in India cost rs 17 k only
So when comparing C7 with ace, ace has evrything except nfc, 8 mp camera, usb otg, AV connector(to connect to TV), FM transmitter, Steel body, 720p HD recoring and playing, higher resolution, better gpu, 8 GB mass memory, AMOLDED screen with CBD, front camera with video calling functionality :P, bluetooth 3.0
So get this much extra 3k is worth the cost. you can compare samsung with nokia. If u say an excuse with android then nokia has shortened the gap with belle.

Abadi, 08 Sep 2011as long all these features in Symbian OS then it's pointles... moreWith all due respect Abadi, if it is not completely clear why Nokia did not go with Android to you, we should not have this discussion in the first place. What position would Nokia be in now if they would have went with Android. They would sell more devices now, correct. They also would be bankrupt in a few years, seeing on how Google is going to be producing their own phones now with Motorola. What margin is left for the other manufacturers? Why do you think Samsung & HTC are looking for other OS's. Android is a fools trap, and it will cost SE, LG & Samsung dearly.

Nokia made the smarter move, now let's hope they are not too late.

Think about HTC, Motorola and LG phones, and all mid-range Samsung phones (also, while you have auto-focus on a mid-range Samsung phone aside of having a poor camera, you have to stick with a pathetic QVGA@15 FPS video recording, while with a Nokia phone you have 720P video-recording, think about which is the worse compromise).
About the design, you must be really an iPhone lover to say that Nokia design sucks, Nokia (probably SE too) is the ONLY manufacturer that still doing original designs, while almost all phones from other manufacturer (mostly Samsung) are just cheap copies from the iPhone. No matter if it's ugly or not for you, at least it's original, and we can't care any less about your opinion about their design. I'm sure most people found them atractive.
